New Virus in Bengal, Dec 22: The new Corona strain is spreading panic around the world. London-Kolkata flights have also been closed.

Meanwhile, the state’s concern was heightened when two passengers from London to Kolkata were found to be COVID positive on Tuesday.

It is being investigated whether the coronavirus is a new corona strain in the bodies of two new passengers returning to London.

The two men who got infected from the new virus in Bengal were immediately taken to the hospital. One of them is undergoing treatment at Calcutta Medical College, the other is admitted at Rajarhat CMCI. Sources said that their report was sent to Pune. The rest of the passengers on the plane are also being monitored.

Apple to launch self-driving car by 2024

Apple self-driving car, Dec 22: After phones, laptops, and audio products, Apple is going to foray into the automobile industry. Apple is planning to build a self-driving car and could launch it in the market in 2024.

The reports suggest that Apple could produce a passenger car with its own battery technology. The company had reported started working on Project Titan, which the name is given to its auto venture.

While reports claimed that Apple had started working on the project in 2014, it was also reported that Apple had shelved its plans of producing cards in 2016. Out of 1000 employees, who were roped in for the Project Titan, 200 employees were laid off from Apple’s car team in 2016. Now the fresh report suggests that Apple is starting afresh. It has started working on producing a vehicle after shelving the idea earlier.

Sources familiar with the Apple car project had told Reuters that the car would be a passenger car. The sources also claimed that Apple would introduce a battery that could “radically” reduce the cost of the batteries and increase the vehicle’s range.

“As for the car’s battery, Apple plans to use a unique “mono cell” design that bulks up the individual cells in the battery and frees up space inside the battery pack, one of the people said. That design means the more active material can be packed inside the battery, giving the car a potentially longer range,” the report said.

“If there is one company on the planet that has the resources to do that, it’s probably Apple. But at the same time, it’s not a cellphone,” a source who worked with Project Titan said.

The Apple source had called the battery technology “next level” and had also said it feels like the first time you saw an iPhone.

Apple has plans to rope in outside partners for “elements of the system”. The Cupertino giant plans to use LiDar sensors, which would help the cars get a three-dimensional view of the road, people familiar with the project informed reporters.

In 2017, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about Apple’s autonomous driving software. “We’re focusing on autonomous systems. It’s a core technology that we view as very important. We sort of seeing it as the mother of all AI projects. It’s probably one of the most difficult AI projects actually to work on,” Cook had said.

BJP only bent on dividing the country: CM Mamata

Bengal, Dec 21: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday hit out at the Centre saying that BJP is only bent on dividing the country and has cancelled public holidays on festivals like Christmas.

Inaugurating Christmas festival at Allen Park in the Kolkata’s Park Street area, the TMC supremo condemned the “politics of hatred” pursued by the Narendra Modi government.

“Some people can only divide the country. The BJP government has cancelled the public holiday on Christmas after coming to power. Why did they do so? Don’t they have any regard for the sentiments of the Christian community?” CM Mamata Banerjee said lashing out at the saffron party.

Christmas is now a regional holiday. Stating that Christmas is a festival for all, Banerjee said “In West Bengal we celebrate X mas, Durga Puja and Eid with equal gusto. We all love and respect our Constitution but the government in Delhi has no respect for constitutional norms and values.“

Without naming BJP, Banerjee charged the saffron party of spreading “a garbage of lies” about the state’s development.

“Why are you speaking garbage of lies to people? Tell the truth. Acknowledge the fact that we (West Bengal) stand first in MSME sector. We are front runners in various social sectors. Our Kanyashree and Sabooj Sathi schemes have earned universal acclaim,” she said.

Kanyashree Prakalpa is an initiative taken by the West Bengal government to improve the life and status of girls by helping economically backward families with cash, while Sabooj Sathi is a scheme for providing bicycles to students.

“Some people coming from Delhi are jealous and they keep spreading falsehoods,” she said in an apparent reference to BJP national-level leaders flaying the state’s performance in several sectors including employment.

Unity is the strength of Bengal and the country, Banerjee said and gave a call for fostering bonds among communities on the occasion of Christmas.
