West Bengal Governor meets family members of Hav (late) Bipul Roy

Guwahati, 9th October: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar with Sudesh Dhankhar accompanied by Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, Army Commander Eastern Command and Anupama Chauhan, had visited the family of Hav (Late) Bipul Roy of 3 IDSR at Bindipara, Alipurduar district, West Bengal on Friday.

This visit was to pay homage to Hav (Late) Bipul Roy who along with his comrades made the supreme sacrifice in the true traditions of Indian Army at Galwan Valley.

The West Bengal Governor, Sudesh Dhankhar and the Army Commander along with Anupama Chauhan met the family of Hav (Late) Bipul Roy and offered deepest condolences and expressed heartfelt gratitude for his sacrifice in the line of duty.

During the interaction, Bipul Roy was assured of all possible assistance at this time of grief. Indian Army prides itself on being a close-knit family bound by camaraderie and considers it as its bounden duty to look after its personnel and their families.

Assam: Congress expels MLA Rajdeep Gowala and ex-MLA Rumi Nath from party for six years

Guwahati, 9th October: One sitting Congress MLA from Assam and an ex-MLA were expelled from the party for anti-party activities.

The Congress on Friday has expelled its sitting MLA Rajdeep Gowala and an ex-MLA Rumi Nath from Barak Valley from Assam for a period of six years for anti-party activities.

“The Congress president has approved the proposal of the expulsion of Rajdeep Gowala, MLA, from the party for a period of six years for indulging in anti-party activities,” AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal said in a statement.

Rajdeep Gowala is a Congress MLA of Lakhipur assembly constituency.

Both Rajdeep Gowala and Rumi Nath were allegedly in touch with BJP since past few months.

Police arrested a drug peddler with drugs in Guwahati

Guwahati, 9th October: Police had arrested a drug peddler along with drugs at Noonmati area in Guwahati city on Thursday night.

According to the police, the drug peddler identified as Sahidul Islam came to the area and tried to sell drugs to some local youths.

Police seized 128 grams of brown sugar, a scooty, one mobile phone in possession from him.

A police officer said that, Guwahati city police is continuing its operation against drugs in the city and arrested several persons with drugs in recent times.

On the other hand, Chirang district police had also arrested two drug peddlers from the Santipur area in Chirang district and seized 500 Nitrazepam tablets, 3496 SPSPHEN tablets, two mobile handsets, Indian currency notes of Rs 1220, Bhutanese currency notes of 1776 in possession from them.

Manipur police seized arms ahead of bye-polls

Imphal, 9th October: Manipur police had seized arms ahead of the bye-elections in the state.

In connection with the upcoming bye-polls of Lilong and Wangjing Tentha assembly constituencies in Manipur’s Thoubal district, Manipur police have conducted a cordon and house to house search operation in many places.

The police team had conducted a search operation at Lilong Turel Ahanbi Darul Uloom eastern and northern areas on Thursday.

During the operation, the police team had seized 3 Double Barrel guns, 2 Single Barrel along with cartridges and 1 Non-Prohibited Bore ( NPB) ’20 pistol from different houses in the area.

The police team had properly searched about 60 houses and about 350 residents including females were verified.

Assam government launches ‘Swa-nirbhar Naari’ scheme

Guwahati, 9th October: Ahead of the assembly polls in Assam, the state government has announced various scheme by aiming to attract the voters.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday had launched ‘Swa-nirbhar Naari: Atmanirbhar Asom’ scheme in a bid to empower the economically disadvantaged women of the state.

Launching the scheme in a programme organized by the state Panchayat & Rural Development department at Chandrapur in Kamrup (Metro) district, Sonowal said that, many women personalities like Sati Joymati, Sati Sadhani, Kanaklata Baruah, Mangri Orang, Indira Miri etc. exemplified women power in the state and women of the state are very hardworking and urged them to show utmost commitment in implementing the scheme.

The new scheme aims to create more than 3.72 lakh sustainable individual and 822 community assets benefitting around 4 lakh families in first phase under MGNREGA with convergence of schemes of various state government departments and missions including Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Agriculture & Horticulture, Fishery, Environment & Forest, Handloom & Textiles, Sericulture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry etc.

In case of individual asset creation, five identified activities would be implemented across all Development Blocks. For community asset creation, 20 activities would be implemented in selected Development Blocks. Moreover, monitoring committees from panchayats upto state level would be constituted for effective implantation of the scheme.

Underlining the role of PRI representatives in ensuring effective implementation of the scheme, the Assam Chief Minister called upon them to extend full cooperation to the women SHG beneficiaries and perform their duties with honesty, sincerity and dedication.

Sonowal also warned strict action against panchayats found to be involved in corrupt practices, anomalies or negligence while implementing the scheme.

Sonowal announced awards to first three best performing panchayats to the tune of Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh each.

Stating the scheme as a big initiative for women empowerment, the Assam Chief Minister urged all line departments to act responsibly in full cooperation with the P&RD department.

Sonowal also expressed confidence in the capabilities of the PRI representatives and called for their committed service in making the scheme a success.

Further saying that the present state government since coming to power had unleashed efforts to ensure equal development across the state, Sonowal said that exemplary steps were taken to safeguard rights of the indigenous people over land through distribution of land pattas to over one lakh local landless families.

He also informed that efforts were on to provide land pattas to small tea growers in the State.

“The eviction drives carried out against encroachers for preservation of sattras, namghars and other religious institutions, besides Assam government’s efforts for making the State free from corruption, illegal migration, insurgency and pollution,” Sonowal said.

The Assam Chief Minister also released booklets containing Standard Operation Procedures of the scheme in English and Assamese in the programme.

Nagaland: The weekly helicopter services to be resumed from 12

Nagaland, 9th October: The weekly schedule of helicopter services will resume in Nagaland from October 12 under certain conditions, said the Nagaland State Transport General Manager.

It was also informed that before boarding the flight, every passenger will have to produce a COVID-19 negative report by TrueNAT or Rapid Antigen Test or by RT-PCR which should be signed by an authorized medical officer. This system of checking the COVID-19 reports will be followed strictly.

It was also informed by the Nagaland State Transport General Manager that at this initial stage, the resumption of helicopter services would be between the district headquarters only.

According to the circular that was issued by the General Manager of Nagaland State Transport, the weekly services will be resumed with full seat occupancy and with an increase of Rs 300 per seat for all the sectors to take care of the additional cost such as, mask, sanitizer, and face cover.

All the operating units have been requested to strictly follow and maintain the contents of the terms and conditions specified in the circular by the Government while operating the helicopter service for the safety of all the passengers and also the officials.

Meghalaya Gov joins hands with Israel on improving farmer’s conditions

Meghalaya 8th October: The Meghalaya Gov has collaborated with Israel to improve farmer’s livelihood. The joint force will be setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on high-value vegetables found within the state, to promote and improve the livelihoods of farmers. The CoE is entrusted with the vital role of tapping the various bio-diversity and resources available in Meghalaya, in terms of its soil and agro-climatic conditions.

The CoE will further branch into expanding various aspects which contribute to the State’s revenue, such as tourism potential. A statement from the meeting that was held today stated that the State has a gene pool of important vegetables, fruits and plants and their potential in contributing to the economy will be looked into. The CoE will also generate seedlings through Quality Planting Materials, giving it a meaningful impact.

The meeting was held via video conference with representatives from Israel and senior officials from the State agriculture department. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was also present. He instructed the concerned department to focus on research on quality seedlings and planting materials. He also stressed on the need to improve market linkages, instead of only upgrading production and quality, to increase the reach. He instructed to explore the potential for crossing over to various global markets, especially Bangladesh.

The Meghalaya state Gov looks forward to the benefit in collaborating with Israel. It is supposed to offer wide expertise in terms of fustigation, protected cultivation, quality planting materials, etc. besides bringing technological support and know-how. It will also assist in the process of creating facilities for water harvesting and conservation. It will also deal with the marketing issue by setting up State of the Art Packing House.

The initiative will come into action in two phases. Firstly the focus will solely be on seasonal and high-value vegetables and water management. And secondly, the focus will be on expansion of the research and development of citrus fruits.

Ex DIG of Assam PK Dutta taken under custody for 6 days

Assam, 8th October: Former DIG of Assam Police, PK Dutta, who is one of the Prime accused SI recruitment scam has now been at a 6 day CID custody.

The retired DIG was arrested on Tuesday from Kakarbhitta along Indo-Nepal border by the West Bengal Police. A team of Police, led by ADGP GP Singh brought PK Dutta, his son and his son -in in-law to Gauwhati on Wednesday morning after taking Transit remand. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police sought custody of the former top Assam Police for 7 days, although the Chief judicial magistrate of Kamrup Metro district sent to the custody of CID for 6 days.

Dutta has been kept at The CID headquarters in Ulubari area of the city.

Before interrogation by The CID, the court directed for Dutta goes through a checked up in the Guwahati Medical College Hostel (GMCH).

Dutta has tested negative for COVID 19.

It has been alleged that Dutta and ruling BJP leader Diban Deka had assured jobs to many candidates in luie of cash.

Dutta has been arrested in Case No.21/20 IPC Sec 120(B),409 RW 66(B) registered by the CID of Assam Police.

The former Assam Police DIG PK Dutta and his son have been helped by an associate on September 23 to reach Siliguri in West Bengal, where they spent a night at a hotel.

Dutta’s son -in- law believed to have helped two to enter Nepal.

Dutta and ruling BJP leader Diban Deka are suspected to have assured jobs to many candidates in lieu of cash, and Dekha has been alleged to have procured the question paper ahead of the written test.

Around 70 of these candidates who had the question papers were staying 5 hotels that Dutta owns in Gauwhati.

Arunachal Pradesh CM speaks on agricultural development 

Arunachal, 7th October: A meeting was held on Tuesday, which had the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Commissioner to CM, Finance Secretary, Secretary of Disaster Management, Secretary and HoDs of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary and Fisheries as it’s attendees. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, while assuring active role and support to farmers in the successful implementation of all centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) said that “Agriculture is the backbone of our society.” He assured financial support to the schemes that require state support, besides that of the centre. He went through all central schemes which are implemented in the state, with accordance to the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary and Fisheries. He strongly condemned any delay in the share and allotment of funds as agriculture and allied sector schemes are time-bound and seasonal.

The CM also called for an urgent meeting along with the Chief Secretary. He asked the concerned departments and the Finance and Planning department officials to be present, to discuss and solve all the pending cases of a state fund share. “We cannot wait for lengthy procedures to release the state shares for centrally sponsored schemes under agriculture and allied sectors. It shouldn’t happen that by the time state shares are released and schemes are ready to be implemented, the season for the same is over,” he said.

The meeting also discussed the newly passed farm bills (Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce Bill, 2020; Farmers Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020; Essential Commodities Bill, 2020) and it impacts on Arunachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister assured the farmers that the new bills, turned Acts, will prove to be beneficial for them, contradicting to what the opposition has to say.

The Secretary of the Agriculture and Horticulture department said that one of the Acts will have no impact on Arunachal Pradesh since mandi-system is non-existent in the state. The Secretary informed that earlier APMC used to collect 2% cess from farmers transporting their products, which has been done away with. As per the new Acts, farmers will have the freedom to sell their products without having to go through any middlemen or pay less to the government.

Other aspects, like Oil Palm Cultivation under the National Food Security Scheme and financial help to the regions where paddy fields were destroyed, was also discussed. He informed that the government will do it’s best to mitigate the losses, and suggested that the State Disaster Relief Fund should take over.

The Agriculture Minister, Tage Taki, informed that the state government has signed MoUs with three companies- Siva Sai, 3F and Ruchi Soya, for setting up oil extraction factories and buyback oil palm fruits from farmers.

Arunachal CM also emphasized on successful and prompt implementation of the recently launched Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMMSY) under which the centre along with the state will bear 60% of the total cost of establishment of a fishery and the rest will be given by the beneficiary.

Landslide causes damage in Aizawl

Aizawl, 7th October: Rain caused a massive landslide which swept away two buildings, one bus and car at Aizawl Zemabawk locality, police said. It lies on the northeastern outskirts of the capital of Mizoram on Tuesday.

No casualty has been reported in the incident. According to police, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm on Tuesday when the already landslide-hit area slid again sweeping away a three-storey concrete building and an Assam Type building, both already emptied.

They continued by saying that an empty bus and a car have also been swept away and one building collapsed due to the landslide inn Aizawl. Many families, who resided at the area, were evacuated to safer places, they said.

Zemabawk falls under Aizawl East-I constituency where chief minister Zoramthanga was elected. Zoramthanga and disaster management and rehabilitation minister, Lalchamliana visited the site on Tuesday evening and held a meeting with local leaders.

The chief minister said that rehabilitation will be provided to the victim families as per the existing laws.
