Accused of videography and uploading pornographic video content on the Internet, an assistant professor of Dibrugarh University in Assam was arrested on Friday after an FIR was lodged by the registrar of the university against him.

He was in his 30s and professor of Mathematics in the University.

“In the viral video, a person resembling the educator is seen with a woman in a compromising state. On Thursday evening, we raided his house and seized his laptop,” informed the Dibrugarh District Superintendent of Police Sreejith T to PTI.

“The professor confessed during interrogation that he had videographed the pornographic content with a woman in a hotel in Guwahati three years ago,” he added.

The police have confiscated camera which had been used for filming in a raid in the Amolapatty area of Dibrugarh.

Although the accused has claimed that the woman seen in the video was not a student of the university and the Dibrugarh district police have verified the claim with authorities of the University, an enquiry commission has been set up to investigate the matter.

“On getting information about a viral video of the assistant professor, we issued him a show-cause notice on June 26 seeking an explanation within five days. His reply came on June 30 but upon finding it unsatisfactory, we lodged an FIR against him,” PTI quoted Dibrugarh University Registrar Harin Mahanta saying.

He has been charged under relevant IPC sections and will be produced to court as investigation proceeds.

Kochi 4th July, 2020: Kerala State police arrested a man for posing as an officer (Lieutenant) in Indian Navy near Naval Base, Kochi on 01 Jul 20. Mr RajaNath, 23 hailing from Nadia, West Bengal was travelling to various places in Naval Uniform. The individual has also uploaded videos in ‘TikTok’ posing as a Naval Officer.

Raja Nath arrived Kochi on Oct 19 and was residing in an apartment A 160, Water Tank Road, Mattummel, Thevara, Kochi till date. The individual had got uniforms made from shops at Kochi.

The police have registered a case against the individual under Sec 140 of IPC for impersonating as an officer in Indian Navy and has also recovered Naval uniforms/ badges from his residence.

A similar incident was reported earlier also at Thevara Police Station for impersonation as Commander in Indian Navy by Mr Nibit Daniel. This individual was allegedly involved in fraudulent activities by posing as a senior officer in the Indian Navy who had also got uniforms stitched locally.

It is hereby reiterated that impersonation of service personnel by others is a cognizable offence and those indulging in such activities would be subject to stringent measures to avoid Anti-national elements from utilizing this method for ulterior motives, which pose a potentially grave threat to national security.

District administrations of Kutch (Gujarat) and Srinagar, and State Government of Punjab had issued orders for a ban on unauthorized sale of Armed forces uniform under section 144 of CrPC. Indian Navy is taking up a similar case with Kerala State government for the ban of unauthorised sale of Armed forces’ uniform in Kerala.

BCDI, Tripura introduces bamboo water bottles – the first of it kind; Will promote Vical for Locals, officials say

The Bamboo and Cane Development Institute in Tripura has come up with innovative and eco-friendly bamboo water bottles made by local Tripura artisans which can be used as an alternative to plastic bottles.

These bamboo bottles are being applauded as the institute has already introduced the first tested export quality prototype. Among buyers is included Bollywood actress Ravina Tandon.

One of the top officials of the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute iterated, “As soon as the single-use of plastic was banned, BCDI Tripura took initiatives to promote bamboo as an alternative to the plastic. In different states, there were such attempts already but fungal contamination and leakage problems were reported. What we had designed has no such issues. Our products are of exportable quality with no leakages or contamination issues.“

The first of its kind, these bottles have been made leakage free and exportable with the use of metal or glass coating so that water does not come in touch with the bamboo directly.

The main advantage of such bottles is that these can be manufactured using simple pieces of equipment, and thus reducing the cost of production.

It will also take the country, a step closer to the idea of ‘ Atma Nirbhar Bharat‘ using the new slogan of “Vocal for Local”, said the official.

“In China, these kinds of bottles are made but they use Venire—a special material that requires a huge set up for manufacturing. We just used its natural form so that rural people can make these items at their homes using hand tools, power tools etc. Standards were made export quality we can also sell it other countries along with other states. It is a plastic alternative product.” She added.

Biggest single-day spike of 1202 cases in Assam

Guwahati, July 5: Assam has witnessed the biggest single-day spike in the numbers of COVID-19 as the state has registered 1202 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

With the new cases, the state has crossed the 11,000 mark also.

Out of the fresh cases, 777 cases have been detected in Guwahati alone.

Confirming the report Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, a total of 1202 positive cases have detected in the state in last 24 hours and it is the biggest single-day spike.

He also said that out of 1202 cases, 777 cases have been detected in Guwahati alone.

Earlier on June 30, the state had reported 613 COVID-19 positive cases.

14 COVID-19 patients have died in the state so far.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “In the biggest spike ever, Assam on 4th July reported 1202 cases, 777 of these from Guwahati City alone. Time for all of us to be extra vigilant. Total cases 11001, Recovered 6327, Active cases 4657, Deaths 14.”

 

In the last seven days, the state has registered 3207 positive cases for the novel Coronavirus.

According to the Assam Health department, the state had reported 327 COVID-19 positive cases on June 28, 302 cases on June 29, 613 cases on June 30, 548 cases on July 1, 479 cases on July 2, 365 cases on July 3 and 1202 cases on July 4.

Guwahati, July 4: Assam police found a unique way to teach lessons to the COVID-19 lockdown violators.

In a video, some police personnel were seen to give punishment to the weekend lockdown as to do sit-ups in Assam’s Goalpara district.

According to the reports, Goalpara district police personnel caught some people who violated weekend lockdown orders and didn’t wear mask also.

The lockdown violators were made to do sit-ups as punishments.

Following a sharp spike in the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases, the Assam government has announced 14-day total lockdown in Guwahati city and Kamrup (Metro) district from June 28 and weekend lockdown in the municipal and town committee areas in the other districts of the state.

In the video, the police personnel were also seen to provide face masks among the violators.

Assam has registered 9799 COVID-19 positive cases so far.

The state has reported 365 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

CM Pema Khandu attends porter raising programme

The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu on Friday, attended the Porter Raising Programme at Sapper in the state’s  West Kameng district hosted by the 22nd Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army.

Hundreds of youngsters took part in the recruitment event from across the state.

Addressing hundreds of youth gathered at Sapper he said, “This is a great time for our unemployed youths to showcase their unflinching patriotism by working alongside the brave Indian Army. This opportunity offers you not only employment but also the best chance to serve the nation.“

At a time when border tensions between India and China are snowballing especially after the Galwan Valley clash in Ladakh on June 15, this comes as a significant event.

The Indian Army has announced that it will raise three porter companies with a total of 1800 male members in the Kameng sector within this month.

Khandu took to the occasion to praise the Indian Army for their immense courage and determination to safeguard the country’s borders in extremely difficult terrains and weather conditions as in the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Khandu had earlier urged Army authorities to provide opportunities to unemployed youths to serve the nation via employment in the Indian Army in all possible capacities.

Ha also complimented the efforts of an NGO named Yuva Arunachal for organising and preparing youths from all over the state to make use of the opportunity by actively promoting the recruitment program.

The recruitment programme will be held at Tawang and Dirang in the West Kameng along with Sapper from July 1 to July 12.

Hog deer fleeing from Kaziranga National Park in Assam due to flood killed by hunters, two arrested, 35 animals died

Guwahati, July 4: As the flood submerged a large part of Kaziranga National Park Assam, many animals including one-horned rhino, deer, elephant have fleed from the park to seek safer places in the nearby areas and it is making easier for the hunters to locate and kill the wild animals for meat and body parts.

While the police and state forest department have engaged to provide security to the wild animals who came out from the national park due to flood, hunters are also trying to poach the animals.

Recently, police and forest officials had arrested two persons who killed a deer as the wild animal came out from the national park due to flood.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, police and forest officials had conducted an operation at Behali area in Biswanath district and arrested two persons who killed a hog deer.

The police and forest department team arrested the persons while they were cooking the hog deer meat at a farmhouse located inside a tea garden at Dalani area.

The arrested persons were identified as Akomanlora Bora and Biswajit Baruah.

A police officer said that the hunters killed the hog deer at Rangsali area under Behali police station and they were selling the meat of the deer at the area.

“Based on intelligence input we had launched an operation at Dalani area and arrested two persons while they were cooking the meat of the deer at a farmhouse,” the police officer said.

According to the Kaziranga National Park authority, 35 wild animals including 30 hog deer have lost their lives due to the current flood in the park.

The floodwaters are gradually receding, but 65 per cent of areas in the park are still underwater.

The park authority said that, 32 camps inside the park are still underwater and the flood forced the park authority to vacate three camps.

PM Modi takes stock of flood situation in Assam

Guwahati, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday talked to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over phone and took stock of the current flood and erosion and COVID-19 situation in the state.

Prime Minister Modi during the talk expressed solidarity with the people of the state and said that the central government stands shoulder to shoulder with the efforts of the Assam government to overcome the challenging situations.

PM Modi also assured all kinds of supports from the union government to the state government to tide over the present crisis.

Prime Minister Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for next kin of persons who lost their lives due to floods in Assam from PMNRF.

During the talk, Assam Chief Minister Sonowal apprised the Prime Minister about the havoc wrought by the latest wave of flood, which has submerged vast tract of agricultural land in the State and crippled normal life.

Sonowal informed that several districts are reeling under flood and this has caused huge damages to crops and disrupted communication network in different parts.

“Besides, erosion and landslides have also severely impacted the State and claimed several lives,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal also informed the PM about the relief and rehabilitation measures being made for the marooned people and engagement of NDRF as well SDRF personnel in rescue operations.

Further, the Assam Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister about the present COVID-19 situation in the State.

“Though the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases are surging, the state government is fully geared up to render best possible health care services to the COVID positive patients,” Sonowal said.

The Assam Chief Minister also apprised PM Modi about the dedicated health facilities being developed in the state to deal with COVID-19 cases.

35 people have died so far due to flood in Assam and over 13 lakh people of 20 districts are affected in the current wave of flood.

Social distancing norms flouted in Assam

Social distancing norms and regulations went for a toss in Assam as Congress legislator, Pradyut Bordoloi along with thousands of others accumulated at the janaja (funeral) ceremony of Dhing MLA Amirul Islam’s father in Nonagaon’s Juria on Thursday.

Mufti Khairul Islam, the deceased father of the incumbent MLA was a well-known name in the Islamic religious sect, besides being the Vice President of the All India Jamiat Ulema. A veteran religious leader, he had been suffering from kidney and heart problems. He took his last breath on Wednesday.

Besides Borodoloi, a large crowd gathered on Thursday to witness the funeral of Mufti, violating social distancing norms and government guidelines amid the pandemic which has claimed thousands of lives in the country.

A large portion of the crowd was seen moving around without masks.

At a time, when the Coronavirus pandhas created havoc worldwide, commoners have slammed the district administration for allowing such a gathering to take place, especially as the Union Health Ministry had previously issued guidelines stating that not more than 20 people should be present at social events like funerals and marriages.

The Assam Health Ministry has allowed not more than 10 people to gather in funerals.

A resident of the Nonagaom district termed Congress MLA as ‘irresponsible’ as a political leader for flouting safety protocols.

Rejecting all allegations, Borodoloi said, “Mufti Khairul Islam was a celebrated religious leader, which invited people from all across to attend his funeral ceremony. 

Everybody present in the funeral was wearing face masks. People have deep emotional connections with him and I,  too, am one of them.“

Mufti was also the Aamir-e-Shariat from North-East India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to Nimmo in Ladakh to review the ground situation amid the India China tensions.

A violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops which occurred at Ladakh’s Galwan Valley on June 15 killed 20 Indian jawans including the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, Colonel B. Santosh Babu.

PM Modi visits Nimoo in Ladakh

He was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief, General Manoj Mukund Naravane. 

After arrival in Nimoo at 11,000 ft early in the morning, he was briefed by senior officials about the current situations prevailing in the area. He interacted with other officials as well.

The tensions between the two countries have been building up since the Galwan Valley clash which had claimed the lives of 20 Indian Jawans and left many injured.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has thanked PM Modi for visiting the soldiers at the border and has said that the visit has revitalized the confidence and morale of the soldiers.
