Assam touches 100 COVID-19 positive cases

Guwahati, May 17: Assam on Sunday touches 100 COVID-19 positive cases after three more cases detected in Guwahati.

Confirming the reports, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, all three new patients had returned to the state from outside and they are at the Sarusajai stadium quarantine center.

The Assam minister further said that, two among them were returned from Mumbai and one from Bihar.

He tweeted – “Three persons are tested #COVID19 + in Guwahati. Two of them came from Mumbai while one arrived from Bihar. All 3 are in the Sarusajai quarantine center. Total cases 100.”

Assam has registered nine positive cases for COVID-19 including a 9-year-old boy in the last 24 hours.

The state has so far reported 100 COVID-19 positive cases including 39 cases from Kamrup (Metro), 12 cases from Cachar district, nine cases from Golaghat district, six cases each from Morigaon, Goalpara districts, five cases each from Dhubri, Bongaigaon districts, four cases each from Nalbari, Jorhat district, two cases each from Karimganj and Kamrup districts and one each from South Salmara, Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Sonitpur, Sivasagar and Kokrajhar district.

Out of them two patients died and 39 others were discharged from hospitals.

One COVID-19 patient was migrated to Bihar.

The state has now 44 active positive cases for COVID-19.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu takes financial measures, and said that the state will leave no stones unturned to make sure that Covid-19 has the least amount of impact on the state’s economy.

Talking on the financial status of the state amidst the nationwide lockdown Chief Minister Khandu said that in current times the state is not facing any such financial troubles due to which it wouldn’t be able to pay salary to government employees.

However, he has also expressed his concern regarding the future situation. He said that the financial conditions will surely lead to some hardships in the coming days and the state will face problems in taking up bigger and newer developmental projects.

But again, instructions have been given to the State Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Chowna Mein to conduct meetings with the finance department and make plans about how to go about with the ongoing schemes keeping in mind the state’s financial capacity.

Khandu tweeted, “Taking every step to ensure that COVID-19 has minimum impact on the economy.”

Welcoming the Rs. 20 lakh crore economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deal with Covid-19, Chief Minister Khandu has thanked him saying that this will benefit the people of Northeast and Arunachal soon.

Addressing a press briefing he said, “I would like to thank honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji on behalf of the people and the government of Arunachal, as in this challenging Covid-19 situation he has announced a historical package of Rs 20 lakh crore.”

“He has also talked about initiating “Atmanirbhar Bharat Yojna” or a self-reliant movement. I believe that in the incoming days this will benefit North East and Arunachal in several ways.” he added as he went on to say that on several occasions he too has emphasized on the importance of self-reliance for Arunachal Pradesh. This will largely benefit entrepreneurs in the state and also result in employment generation, he said.

Guwahati, May 17: A special train from Bengaluru ferrying 1384 stranded people from Manipur on Sunday reaches in Manipur.

The people from Manipur who were stranded due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic reached Jiribam railway station on Sunday evening.

The returnees mostly students and migrant workers had started their journey from Bengaluru on May 13.

After reached at Jiribam railway station, the COVID-19 response teams of the Manipur government had received the people and conducted screening and other health check-ups.

The COVID-19 response teams had conducted screening of each passenger by maintaining social distancing norms as precautionary measures to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The Manipur government had arranged moreover 43 buses to transport the passengers to their respective districts.

The people had left from Jiribam railway station in the buses to Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Senapati, Chandel, Kakching, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kamjong and Noney districts.

Manipur government has made 14 days of compulsory isolation at community quarantine centers for the returnees.

Earlier, over 2000 people stranded in other states were returned to the state via two special trains.

The first special train from Delhi reached in Assam carrying over 500 stranded people from Assam in other states, on the 14th of May.

Assam registers its youngest COVID-19 positive case, state tally surges to 97:

Guwahati, May 17: Assam registers its youngest COVID-19 positive case on Sunday, after a 9-year-old boy tested positive in Jorhat district.

The 9-year-old boy who returned from Delhi recently was tested positive for COVID-19 at Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

On the other hand, a 28-year-old person from Cachar district was also tested positive for COVID-19 at Silchar Medical College Hospital.

Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the person hailing from Cachar district was returned to the state from Chennai recently.

With the two new cases, the state tally now surges to 97.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “A 28-year person from Cachar dist, who arrived from Chennai yesterday, has tested #COVID +. He is now under treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital. Total cases 97.”

The state has so far 97 COVID-19 positive cases including 36 cases from Kamrup (Metro), 12 cases from Cachar district, nine cases from Golaghat district, six cases each from Morigaon, Goalpara districts, five cases each from Dhubri, Bongaigaon districts, four cases each from Nalbari, Jorhat district, two cases each from Karimganj and Kamrup districts and one each from South Salmara, Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Sonitpur, Sivasagar and Kokrajhar district.

Two COVID-19 patients died and 41 patients were discharged from hospitals.

The state has now 52 active COVID-19 positive cases.

Migrant labourer walks with his injured son on his shoulders. In a heart-wrenching video, a man was seen carrying his injured son on his shoulders, while he walks to his home in Madhya Pradesh. He had started walking from Punjab amid the nationwide lockdown. His son was lying in a makeshift cot and is seen wearing a mask.
The video was shot when the man and his family reached Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on the way to their village in Madhya Pradesh.
According to a report by Lokmat, Police officer Ramkumar Gupta saw the man carrying his son on his shoulders in Kanpur’s Ramadevi area. He stopped and talked to him. The man was identified as one Rajkumar from a village in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.
Rajkumar broke down while talking to him. His son Brajesh Kumar, 15, had a severe wound in his neck and was unable to walk. When the family failed to find any means of sustenance in Ludhiana, they decided to go back to their native place.
Gupta arranged for a vehicle to ferry the father-son duo to their native place.
A total of 18 people were part of the group walking to MP.

NSCN(IM) wanted militant arrested for the murder of Arunachal MLA and 8 others:

Tinsukia: In a breakthrough, a joint team of Army, Assam Rifles and Arunachal Police on Wednesday arrested self-styled sergeant major with National Socialist Council of Nagalim [ NSCN(IM) ], Puman Wangsu, a most-wanted militant is on the National Investigating Agency ( NIA ) list, has been arrested for the murder of MLA Tirong Aboh, from Arunachal’s Longding district.
42-year-old Tirong Aboh, MLA representing the Khonsa West constituency, his 20-year-old son Loggem Aboh and party general secretary Wangngoi Hakhun and eight others were killed in an ambush near Bogapani, around 20-km from district headquarters of Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh. The four-vehicle convoy they were traveling in was stopped and fired upon on May 21.
Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of security forces arrested the accused in a covert operation. “He has confessed to his involvement in the killing and had opened fire on the convoy.”
“Security forces launched the operation in jungles of Longphong village and arrested the accused. He tried to flee from his hideout, a temporary shelter inside a bamboo forest,” sources in the army said.
In another development, security forces arrested SS capt (revenue & political officer) Hangnog Pangtha alias Pangdong, a militant of NSCN (K2), from Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh, in connection with extortion from contractors and government officials. He was earlier with NSCN (R).

Assam reports four new COVID-19 positive cases and Manipur registers one fresh case:

Guwahati, May 17: New COVID-19 cases from Assam and Manipur. Assam has registered four more COVID-19 positive cases which led the state total tally to 95.

Among the four new cases, two cases have been reported from Guwahati and one each case from Sonitpur and Sivasagar.

Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, in Guwahati, one patient was detected at Kalapahar quarantine center and another was detected at the Fatashil Ambari area.

On the other hand, one young boy hailing from Sivasagar district who is at Jorhat quarantine center tested positive for COVID-19 and another patient is hailing from Sonitpur district.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “On May 16 NIGHT, 4 more #COVID19 + cases were detected – 2 from Guwahati, 1 each from Sonitpur & Sivasagar, taking total cases to 95; active 50. Given, developing a situation, I urge the elderly (65+) & children below 10 to strictly stay inside, unless very important.”

Manipur: Villagers build over 80 huts for people returning to state

Manipur villagers build 80 quarantine huts to be utilized as quarantine centers for all the people returning to the state amid this corona crisis which is a fairly easy task when done by the government.

However, when it comes to villagers doing the same, it takes a lot of awareness, integrity, and whole-heartedness to build several residential huts with all possible facilities for all the returnees.

People from the Tungjoy village of Manipur’s Senapati district have built over 80 bamboo huts which can be used as quarantine centers for all people coming back to the state proving that all it takes is a little bit of humanity to serve you fellow being. In doing this, they haven’t taken financial aid from the government.

Each hut will accommodate one person and has been made well furnished with a bed, a toilet, mirror, gas station, electricity, and even with charging sockets! Water supply has also been arranged in several locations. More huts are being constructed.

This is an effort made by the locals to ensure that all those coming back do not have to face difficulties and a lack of facilities while being in isolation in quarantine centers.

Appreciating their efforts Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tweeted,  “My salute, Tungjoy Village Authority, has set up 80 huts for quarantine of their villagers who are going to come from outside the state. Each hut is fitted with a bed, separate toilet, gas table, electricity with a charging socket. Water supply is provided at various locations.”

Their service was also applauded by Union Development of North-Eastern Region Minister Jitendra Singh.

Guwahati, May 16: In another shocking incident as locals found used Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) kits at a market area in Guwahati on Saturday.

Many people were in a panic after the used PPE kits found at a market area at Lakhtokia in the capital city of Assam.

Following the incident, some locals had immediately informed the police and they set ablaze the kits.

In an unusual scene, defying all social distancing norms and government orders to prevent the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), a large crowd gathered at a playground in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district to buy carbonated cold drinks.

According to the reports, a large number of people of East Kameng district – a bordering district of Arunachal Pradesh along Indo-China border had gathered at the general ground at Seppa on May 14 as the cold drinks selling agency started distributing cold drinks bottles.

Many photographs of the incident went viral on social media.

“Cold drinks are most popular among the people of Seppa and other parts of East Kameng district and they have used it regularly,” a resident of Seppa said.

Recently, the district administration of East Kameng district had sealed 12 shops at Seppa for selling cold drinks at high rates.
