Dubai, Sep 04: Pineapples exported from Manipur, a state in the Northeast of India have been put on sale in some supermarkets of Dubai from Saturday under the tag or label ‘Product of Manipur’.
An online event was held at the Sanjenthong Organic Outlet to mark the launch of Manipur pineapples in Dubai where the Additional Chief Secretary (Horticulture & Soil Conservation) P Vaiphei and other officers were present.

Speaking to media persons after the online event was over, P Vaiphei said that a company called Lulu Group International has started selling pineapples exported from Manipur in the supermarkets opened by the company in Dubai.

Pineapples collected by Thayong Farmer Producer Company Limited from farmers were procured and sent to Dubai under a joint initiative of the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur Organic Mission Agency, and Agricultural and Processed Fruit Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
These pineapples would be sold in Dubai by Lulu Group International in their supermarkets, Vaiphei said.
Earlier, he said that pineapple farmers and concerned officials were complacent with whatever quantities of pineapples were exported to the other States of India and abroad from Imphal Airport and the Organic Outlet.
It is highly gratifying to note that he remarked that pineapples exported from the State are now sold in Dubai under the tag or label ‘Product of Manipur’.
He said that it is a commendable achievement and success of the pineapple farmers of the State.
Lulu Group International Director Zulfiker and APEDA Chairman Dr. M Angamuthu took part in the online event.
An audio-visual presentation starting from harvesting pineapples in Manipur to a display of the same pineapples in the supermarkets of Dubai was also presented during the online event.
