New Delhi, March 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condemned the terrorist attack on a Moscow concert hall, calling it a “heinous act” and expressed solidarity with the Russian government and people.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack on the concert hall complex near Moscow that killed at least 60 people and wounded 145.

The attackers used firearms and incendiary devices. “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and people of the Russian Federation in this time of grief,” PM Modi posted on his X account.

A group of gunmen reportedly stormed the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow, opening fire and setting off explosives in the crowd on Friday.

The terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack in a short statement published by the ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency on Telegram on Friday.

However, no evidence has been provided to support the claim. Video footage from the crime scene shows the concert hall in flames and thick black smoke in the air.

The footage also shows terrified locals hiding behind padded seats as gunshots echo through the hallway.

The state agency RIA Novosti reported that the gunmen “opened fire with automatic weapons” and “threw a grenade or an incendiary bomb, causing a fire.” They then “allegedly fled in a white Renault car,” the news agency reported.

The Islamic State claim was also confirmed by US officials, the New York Times reported. U.S. officials also reportedly briefed Russian officials on intelligence indicating an impending attack.
