United Nations, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead a historic yoga session at the United Nations Headquarters on Wednesday, marking the 9th International Day of Yoga. This special event will witness the participation of top UN officials, global envoys, and notable individuals from around the world.

Expressing his excitement, Prime Minister Modi tweeted upon his arrival in New York City, stating, “Landed in New York City. Looking forward to the programs here, including interaction with thought leaders and the Yoga Day program tomorrow, 21st June.”

This visit to the US serves as the first leg of Prime Minister Modi’s state visit, following an invitation from President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

Nine years after Prime Minister Modi’s initial proposal at the United Nations General Assembly to establish International Yoga Day as an annual observance, he will personally lead the yoga session at the UN Headquarters for the first time, marking a momentous occasion.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, described this year’s yoga celebration as a truly unique event. She emphasized that it was Prime Minister Modi’s vision and leadership that led to the global recognition of June 21 as International Yoga Day.
