Surat, Dec 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat on Sunday, marking the world’s largest office building dedicated to the international diamond and jewelry business.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Surat Diamond Bourse is set to become a global hub for the trading of both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewelry. The facility includes a state-of-the-art ‘Customs Clearance House’ for import and export, a jewelry mall for retail businesses, and a facility for international banking and safe vaults.

The grand structure, built at a staggering cost of approximately Rs 3,500 crore, boasts a massive floor space of 67 lakh square feet and has the impressive capacity to accommodate nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices.

This architectural marvel, recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest office building in August of this year, is part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City.

The megastructure, situated on a sprawling plot of 35.54 acres, features nine ground towers and 15 floors, offering office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to a whopping 1 lakh sq ft. These nine rectangular towers are interconnected by a central spine, contributing to its distinctive design. The building has also received a prestigious platinum ranking from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), further solidifying its status as a symbol of sustainability and eco-friendliness.

This momentous occasion represents a significant milestone in the diamond and jewelry industry, placing Surat at the forefront of global trade in these precious commodities.
