Srinagar, March 07: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Srinagar marks a significant milestone, being his first trip to Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.

During the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir’ programme at Bakshi Stadium, PM Modi unveiled multiple development projects valued at over Rs 6,400 crore.

Addressing the Public Rally

In his address to the public rally, PM Modi expressed his elation to be among the people of Srinagar, stating that the development projects being inaugurated would greatly enhance the progress of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the transformation from an era of deprivation to one of development and inclusion, emphasizing the changing times.

Focus on Development and Empowerment

PM Modi emphasized the importance of development, tourism, and empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated that the region holds immense potential and is integral to India’s progress. The Prime Minister also thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their participation and envisioned a bright future for the newly developed region.

Unveiling of Development Projects

During the visit, PM Modi distributed appointment letters to nearly 1,000 newly recruited government employees and interacted with beneficiaries of various central schemes.

An exhibition showcasing local products of Jammu and Kashmir was also visited by the Prime Minister.

The ‘Holistic Agriculture Development Programme’ (HADP) was initiated to boost the agri-economy of the region, aiming to provide skill development training to farmers and establish farmers’ service centres.

Strengthened Security Measures

Stringent security arrangements were in place during the Prime Minister’s visit, with the Bakshi Stadium draped in the tricolour.

Surveillance was intensified using drones, CCTV cameras, and foot patrolling by security forces.

Marine commandos were deployed in water bodies to prevent any subversive activities.

Political Dimension and Context

With the Lok Sabha elections looming and opposition parties seeking an announcement on assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi’s visit carries political significance. Several schools along the Prime Minister’s route were closed, and board examinations were postponed to ensure security.

Context of Article 370 Abrogation

The visit comes in the backdrop of the BJP-led Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370 on August 5, 2019, and reorganize the erstwhile state into the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
