Shillong, Jan 23: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi, asserted that the state is effectively governed not from within but from Delhi.

Speaking at a gathering in Nongpoh, Rahul expressed his dissatisfaction with the external influence over Meghalaya’s administration.

He highlighted the current unemployment crisis in the nation, emphasizing that Meghalaya’s governance being dictated from Delhi is unacceptable.

Rahul criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for previously labeling the Meghalaya government as the most corrupt.

Ironically, after such an accusation, Shah collaborated with the same government led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma following the Meghalaya general elections.

Addressing the audience at Madan Pahamsyiem mini stadium, Rahul stated, “Meghalaya is not ruled from here but from Delhi. This is not acceptable.” He further addressed the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Manipur clash, expressing deep concern.

The Manipur clash resulted in significant loss of lives and the displacement of thousands due to ethnic infighting between the Kukis and Meiteis. Rahul criticized the BJP for its perceived lack of seriousness in resolving the complex issue.

The ethnic clashes between the Kukis and Meiteis began on May 3 during a protest against a court-ordered modification to the state’s reservation matrix, granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the latter.

The ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has provided Rahul Gandhi with a platform to address these concerns and criticize the central government’s handling of regional issues.
