Ayodhya, Feb 19: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, criticizing it for lacking representation from lower castes.

During his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra march in Prayagraj, UP, Gandhi highlighted the absence of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) at the event and pointed out the presence of Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Notably, Aishwarya did not attend the ceremony.

“Did you see the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Temple? Was there a single OBC face? There was Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, and Narendra Modi,” Gandhi remarked, questioning the underrepresentation of OBCs.

He emphasized the significance of OBCs, who constitute 73% of the population, and suggested that the BJP neglects their importance.

Gandhi reiterated his call for a caste census, considering it vital for exposing social disparities. He emphasized that such a census would provide insights into the wealth distribution among different castes, describing it as an “X-ray of the country.”

The Ram temple ceremony, presided over by PM Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, drew thousands of celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries. However, opposition parties, including the Congress, chose not to participate, accusing the BJP of politicizing the event.

In another development, Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is scheduled to reach Amethi, his former Lok Sabha constituency, coinciding with a visit by Union Minister Smriti Irani.

This marks a rare occurrence of both leaders being present in Amethi simultaneously since the 2019 general elections.
