Jaipur, Dec 03: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully crossed the majority mark by winning 115 seats in the 2023 assembly elections in Rajasthan, as declared by the Election Commission of India. This victory positions the BJP to establish the government in the state, marking a notable political shift.

The BJP’s success was notably propelled by breaking into the traditional vote bank of the Congress, particularly among the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. The BJP secured victories in 22 out of 34 SC seats, with Congress winning 11 and one seat going to an independent candidate. Similarly, in the 25 ST seats, the BJP emerged victorious in 12, while Congress secured 10 seats, and the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) claimed three.

Key Winners in Rajasthan:

  1. Vasundhara Raje (BJP): Former Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Jhalrapatan, Vasundhara Raje, clinched victory with an impressive margin of 53,193 votes, amassing a total of 1,38,831 votes.
  2. Sachin Pilot (Congress): Sachin Pilot, a prominent face for the Congress, secured a win with a margin of 29,475 votes, garnering a total of 1,05,812 votes.
  3. Diya Kumari (BJP): BJP candidate and Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari emerged victorious in the Vidhyadhar Nagar seat, winning by a substantial margin of 71,368 votes. A member of the erstwhile Jaipur royal family, Diya Kumari defeated Congress candidate Sitaram Agrawal, polling a total of 1,58,516 votes.
  4. Rajkumar Roat (BAP): Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) candidate Rajkumar Roat secured victory in the Chorasi assembly constituency.
  5. Rajyavardhan Rathore (BJP): BJP MP and candidate from Jhotwara Assembly constituency, Rajyavardhan Rathore, won with a convincing margin of 50,167 votes, amassing a total of 1,47,913 votes.

Notable Defeat:

  • CP Joshi (Congress): Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi faced defeat in the Nathdwara seat, losing to BJP’s Vishvaraj Singh Mewar by 7,504 votes.

In response to the election outcome, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot submitted his resignation from the CM post at the Governor’s house, marking the end of his tenure.
