Sikkim govt extends lockdown till 31st May

Sikkim, May 22: Sikkim state government has extended the lockdown till 31st May. As per the new rules, the Ration Shop & vegetable shop will be allowed to open from 8 am to 11 am.

Earlier on 17th May, the government of Sikkim has imposed a complete lockdown across the state as coronavirus cases continue to surge in the state till May 24.

During the lockdown, all state government offices, private commercial establishments, institutions, markets, gymnasium and factories will remain closed.

Sikkim reported 317 new COVID-19 cases, raising the tally of total cases to 12,521, while the death toll climbed to 220 after three more patients succumbed to the virus, a health department bulletin said on Friday.

The Himalayan state now has 3,175 active cases and 8,916 people have so far recovered from the disease, it said.

The fresh cases include 151 from East Sikkim, South Sikkim (90) and West Sikkim (74).

Sikkim has thus far tested 1,08,170 samples for COVID-19, the bulletin added
