The tragedy struck around 5:30 am following heavy rainfall the previous night, causing flash floods in multiple streams across Yangang.

The disaster swept away five houses in Majuwa village. One injured individual was rushed to the District Hospital in Singtam, while sources indicate that up to eight additional injured persons have been taken to STNM Hospital for treatment.

The flash floods and landslides have also disrupted local infrastructure, blocking the route from Singtam to Yangang at Sirsey and making the Dikchu road connecting North Sikkim impassable near Makha.

Authorities are currently working on rescue and relief operations, and efforts to clear the blocked roads are underway.
