Cachar, April 10: The proposed construction of Doloo Greenfield Airport in Cachar district faces a halt as the Supreme Court of India directs the Assam government to maintain the ‘status quo’ at the Doloo tea estate.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra question the state government’s clearance of the tea garden’s shrubs without an environmental impact assessment report.

The Supreme Court notified the Centre, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Assam government, and others about the plea filed by Tapas Guha and others.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioners, criticizes the National Green Tribunal’s approval without environmental clearances.

Previously, the NGT dismissed Guha’s plea, stating that the environmental impact assessment report was pending, and clearance for the new airport at Doloo was not granted.
