Imphal, Feb 08: Tensions have gripped Kangpokpi district in Manipur following two separate attacks reportedly carried out by armed miscreants on the evening of February 8.

The unrest began when a significant movement of armed individuals was observed moving from the valley towards the Phailengmol hills, carrying sophisticated weaponry.

This raised concerns among locals about the implications of such coordinated movements.

Later in the evening, L. Tangnaum Kuki-Zo village in the Kangchup-Leimakhong area was attacked by armed assailants allegedly from Senjam Chirang and Koutruk, peripheral valley villages bordering Kangchup-Leimakhong.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes with sporadic gunfights lasting into the early hours of the morning.

Despite the intensity of the clashes, there have been no reports of casualties on either side. However, the attackers launched another assault on L. Tangnaum village.

The unrest spread to Monglham Kuki-Zo village, located in the Phailengmol area near Maphou Dam, indicating the widespread nature of the situation.
