Agartala, Jan 11: To enhance teacher training in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the initiation of a four-year Bsc-BEd course at NIT, Agartala, as a pilot project in the state.

Furthermore, approval for the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course is anticipated in several more colleges starting from the next academic year.

Saha revealed during the 13th Legislative Assembly session that the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has introduced the ITEP course.

The four-year Bsc-BEd course at NIT, Agartala, serves as a pilot project this year, with the expectation that more colleges will secure approval for ITEP courses in the upcoming academic year.

Addressing questions related to District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) colleges during the Assembly session, Saha, also the Education Minister of the state, highlighted the existing seven DIET colleges and the construction of an additional DIET college in Panisagar, North Tripura district. Plans include recruiting more teachers for the new college.

Saha informed that the Finance Department has approved the filling of eight lecturer positions in DIET colleges for the financial year 2023-24, with steps being taken to fill these positions accordingly.

However, initiating the teaching program for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) teacher training course in the DIET College under Dhanpur Assembly is subject to the approval of the National Council for Teacher Education for the current academic year.

The newly constructed DIET building is presently utilized by the Department of Education, SCERT for implementing various programs focused on teaching and training in-service teachers and head teachers, according to the Chief Minister.
