1. The WBCHSE has introduced a semester system for Class 11, effective from the 2024-25 academic session.
2. Similar changes will be implemented for Class 12 exams starting from the academic session 2025-26.
3. This decision follows the formation of a committee in December 2023 to revise syllabi for 47 subjects taught in higher secondary education.


Kolkata, March 07: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has announced the adoption of a semester system for Class 11 starting from the academic session 2024-25. Additionally, a similar change will be implemented for Class 12 exams from the academic session 2025-26.

The decision to introduce the semester system was made following approval from the School Education Department, Government of WB, as per memo no. 340-SED-‘11099/312/2023 dated 06.03.2024.

A four-member committee, formed in December 2023, oversaw plans to revise the syllabus for 47 subjects taught in higher secondary education.

The committee comprised two school representatives, one university representative, and one college representative.

Additionally, experts from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were involved in revising the syllabus for 12 to 13 subjects.

The committees were given a deadline of January 2024 to submit their proposals for revision. Detailed syllabus and semester-wise implementation strategies will be uploaded soon.

Meanwhile, WBCHSE recently released the Class 12 exam datesheet for the 2025 board exams. The exams are scheduled to be held between March 3 and March 18, 2025.

Similarly, Class 10 examinations of the West Bengal board for the year 2025 will be conducted between February 12 and 24.

This year, the West Bengal board exams were conducted on February 16 and 29.
