ASTC City Cab

Guwahati, June 29: In a bold move to revolutionize urban transportation services, the Assam government has recently unveiled the “ASTC City Cab” mobile app, marking the debut of the first-ever taxi service in Guwahati.

With over 2,000 taxi operators already registered on the app, the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is poised to give established ride-hailing giants like Uber and Ola a run for their money.

The launch event took place in Guwahati and was graced by Parimal Suklabaidya, the Minister of Transport, Excise, and Fisheries, who officially introduced the mobile application. The ASTC City Cab app aims to simplify commuting for both Guwahati residents and visitors, offering a seamless and convenient urban transportation experience.

Rahul Das, the Managing Director of ASTC, shared that as of 10 pm on June 28, more than 2,000 drivers and 3,500 customers had already registered on the app. While the official rides will commence after a month-long trial run, Das emphasized that the primary objective of the app is to provide convenience and transparency to passengers.

“The app (ASTC City Cabs) has been launched and it is open for registration now. Rides will be launched after a month. We will be keeping the lowest fares, and passengers will not face inconveniences like cancellations as the app will enable both the driver and passengers to know the fare and destination before it is accepted and the driver can skip the ride without troubling the passenger,” stated Das.

The introduction of the ASTC City Cab app shall provide commuters in Guwahati with accessible transportation options. Assam has taken the lead among other states by launching this innovative app-based taxi service, becoming the pioneer in this domain. The service will undergo a trial run to fine-tune its operations before its official launch for public use.

This feature aims to eliminate inconveniences such as cancellations and surprises during the journey, significantly enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Moreover, the initiative of the Assam Government not only promotes efficient transportation but also provides a platform for local taxi operators to compete with established ride-hailing aggregators like Uber and Ola. By encouraging the registration of over 2,000 taxi operators on the ASTC City Cab app, the government aims to foster healthy competition in the market, ultimately benefiting consumers.

As the trial run progresses and the ASTC City Cab app gears up for its official launch, commuters in Guwahati can look forward to a user-friendly and affordable taxi service.

The introduction of the ASTC City Cab app marks a significant milestone in the efforts of Assam to modernize its transportation infrastructure. By embracing technology and promoting competition, the state aims to provide its residents and visitors with a convenient, reliable, and efficient taxi service, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.

Stakeholders will closely monitor the app’s performance during the trial phase and gather valuable feedback to make any necessary improvements. With the ASTC City Cab app on the horizon, Guwahati residents can anticipate a transformative transportation experience that caters to their needs and enhances the city’s overall connectivity.

The launch of the ASTC City Cab app in Assam poses a potential challenge to established ride-hailing giants like Ola and Uber. With competitive pricing, transparency, and a focus on local taxi operators, the new app could attract customers and potentially impact the market dominance of Ola and Uber in the region. As the competition heats up, commuters stand to benefit from improved services and more choices in the transportation sector.
