New Delhi, Jan 13: Delhi experienced the coldest morning of the winter season on Saturday, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 3.6 degrees Celsius, and dropping even lower to 3.4 degrees Celsius in the Lodhi Road area.

A dense fog blanketed the region, causing disruptions in train operations. Severe cold wave conditions persisted across most parts of north India.

A red alert has been issued for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana for Saturday, while an orange alert is in place for the region on Sunday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that dense fog and the prevailing cold wave are expected to persist in parts of northwest India for the next 3-4 days, extending until January 16.

The IMD stated, “Dense to very dense fog at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh and dense fog at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan. Moderate fog in isolated pockets over Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh. Cold day to severe cold day conditions at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh.”

A widespread blanket of dense fog disrupted rail and air traffic across Northern India. The weather department emphasized that dense to very dense fog will persist in parts of northwest India for the next 3 days.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station witnessed delayed trains due to the cold wave, causing difficulties for passengers. Cold wave conditions continued in Delhi, with a thin layer of fog engulfing the national capital. Visibility was recorded at 50 meters.

The weather department forecasted continued cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi for the day.

Delhi was expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with dense morning fog, and the minimum temperature was anticipated to remain below 5 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day.
