Manipur: Security Forces Arrest 2, Seize Arms and Ammunition in Statewide Operation

Imphal, July 10: Security forces in Manipur arrested two individuals, Lunjakap Guite and Kaplal Singson, in Phaitol Village, Tamenglong District, during a search operation and area domination exercise.

They were found in possession of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including two SBBL guns, one .303 rifle, and one Pumpi bomb.

In a similar operation in YC Hill, Saikot Village, Churachandpur District, security personnel recovered a single barrel gun, three improvised heavy mortars (Pumpi), four live cartridge bores marked 70 mm, three empty cartridge bores, and two empty mortar cartridges.

Additionally, from the Hill Range of Village K Lhangnom, Kangpokpi District, they seized one carbine machine gun with a magazine, two 12-bore guns (locally made), one .303 magazine, one HE-36 hand grenade, two 80 WP smoke grenades, one stun grenade, one Baofeng radio set, twenty-one live rounds of ammunition, and nine blank rounds.

The movement of 212 and 145 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2, carrying essential items, was secured.

Strict security measures have been implemented in all vulnerable locations, with security convoys provided in sensitive stretches to ensure the safe movement of vehicles.

A total of 118 checkpoints were installed across Manipur, both in hill and valley districts, resulting in the detention of 85 individuals for various violations.

Lucknow, July 09: Several women from Uttar Pradesh have allegedly misused the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, designed to help poor and middle-class families build permanent homes.

According to media reports, 11 women from Maharajganj district reportedly took the first instalment of ₹40,000 from the government under the PMAY scheme, left their husbands, and ran away with their lovers. The incident was reported to the police by the husbands after their wives disappeared.

Recently, around 2,350 beneficiaries in Maharajganj district received funds under the PMAY scheme, covering villages such as Thuthibari, Sheetlapur, Chatia, Ramnagar, Bakul Diha, Khasra, Kishunpur, and Medhauli.

In light of these events, officials have reportedly decided to halt the second instalment payment for the beneficiaries.

Under the PMAY scheme, eligible families receive government assistance, including a subsidy of up to ₹2.5 lakh, depending on their income. Authorities can demand a refund if discrepancies are found.

Similar incidents occurred last year when four married women in Uttar Pradesh ran away with their lovers after receiving PMAY funds.

These cases came to light when authorities noticed no construction work had begun on their houses despite receiving grants of ₹50,000.

The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) issued warnings to their husbands, demanding immediate commencement of construction work.

Gangtok, July 09: In a distressing development, former Sikkim Minister Ramchandra Poudyal, known as R.C. Poudyal, has been reported missing since the morning of July 7, 2024.

He was last seen leaving his home in Singtam at 9 a.m., intending to visit his sister-in-law in Setipool, and had promised to return by 2 p.m. but has not been seen or heard from since.

As hours passed with no sign of his return, concern grew among his family. Despite their efforts to locate him by contacting relatives and friends, no one could provide any information about his whereabouts.

The family subsequently filed a missing person report at the Pakyong Police Station, urging authorities to search for the missing former minister.

On the day he went missing, Poudyal was reportedly dressed in a traditional kurta and pajamas. His sudden disappearance has left his family and the local community deeply worried.

They hope that public awareness and cooperation can help ensure his safe return.

Local authorities have begun investigations, but as of now, there have been no significant leads.

The family, friends, and supporters of Poudyal remain hopeful that he will be found soon, emphasizing the importance of community support in such critical times.

Guwahati, July 09: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a Facebook live session, announced significant plans for state recruitment examinations amidst ongoing flood relief efforts.

Addressing the public, he detailed the schedule for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) for Grade 3 and Grade 4 posts, outlining the timeline and stages involved.

For Grade 3 positions, preliminary exams are set for September 15, 22, and 29, followed by mains and viva rounds. Grade 4 exams will start with preliminaries on October 20 and 27, also progressing through mains and viva assessments.

The recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 7,500 Grade 3 and 4,500 Grade 4 vacancies across the state.

With improving flood conditions, particularly in Dibrugarh and other areas where Brahmaputra River waters have begun to recede, Sarma expressed optimism for further improvements.

He pledged continued government support to expedite relief efforts and aid displaced residents returning from relief camps.

Ahead of a scheduled cabinet meeting on July 10, Sarma highlighted ministerial visits to flood-affected regions to assess damages and swiftly plan rehabilitation measures.

Regarding a recent tragedy, Sarma acknowledged the loss of Avinash Sarkar in a drain in Guwahati, visiting the family to offer condolences and government assistance. He reiterated his commitment to supporting Sarkar’s family and ensuring justice.

Looking ahead, Sarma addressed queries about Assam Police recruitment, confirming that physical tests are scheduled to commence on October 3, aiming to fill 6,400 posts once flood-affected grounds are restored.

He also outlined plans for further recruitment in elementary and secondary education sectors in 2025, acknowledging the extended timelines for secondary education examinations.

Moscow, July 9: Moscow has agreed to facilitate the return of all Indians who were misled into joining the Russian Army, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention during his ongoing visit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Several Indians enticed to Russia with promises of lucrative jobs or education, inadvertently ended up enlisted in the Russian Army for combat against Ukraine.

Four Indian nationals have tragically lost their lives since the conflict began in February 2022.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 30-40 Indians may currently be serving in the Russian army, with reports indicating their desire to return home despite difficulties in leaving. Ten Indians have already been repatriated.

New Delhi had pursued diplomatic channels extensively, awaiting formal assurance from Russia. Securing the discharge of Indian citizens was a primary focus of PM Modi’s Moscow visit.

Agartala, July 08: Tripura completed its first-ever kidney transplant on a 20-year-old boy at GB Pant Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College after nearly 5 hours of surgery on Monday.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Sankar Chakraborty announced this milestone, highlighting that it was the state’s first kidney transplant.

The journey began with a meeting on August 21, 2023, followed by the formation of a committee on August 23, chaired by then Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Sanjib Kumar Debbarma.

The committee included all relevant doctors and established a protocol by January 4, 2024. This protocol was approved by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on January 18. They then sought technical assistance from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute of Manipur.

The patient, a 20-year-old boy with a creatinine level of 16, was admitted in January and began dialysis. At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Saha, the patient’s parents requested intervention.

Following consultations and medical examinations, an MoU with Shija was signed in May, and the operation was scheduled for July 8. The patient’s mother donated her kidney, and the government covered all expenses, including those for the Manipur team.

Dr. Guliver Potsangbam, a nephrologist from Shija Hospitals, led the operation, confirming its success and the patient’s stability.

“We performed the first surgery today, having assessed and addressed the hospital’s facilities. We will continue mentoring the GB Pant and AGMC team until they can perform the surgery independently. Shija has performed 114 kidney transplants since 2016,” he said.

The operation began at 9 AM and concluded at 2:30 PM, with a 100% patient survival rate.

The GB Pant and AGMC team included Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, urologists Dr. Bijit Lodh and Dr. Mukut Debnath, and nephrologists Dr. Manas Gope and Dr. Samaresh Pal, among others.

Heavy rains over the past few weeks have washed away bridges and roads, creating significant connectivity issues in these sensitive international border areas.

Arun Yangfo, a resident of Sarli, has reported delays in restoration efforts by state departments such as the Highway, RWD, and the Central agency BRO, alleging low-quality work in constructing border roads.

Yangfo has urged the state government to provide daily helicopter services for essential supplies once the weather clears and until roads are restored.

He also called for the Civil Supply Department to provide necessary commodities like ration, fuel, and gas cylinders, and for the health department to supply essential medicines and deploy doctors in the affected towns.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kurung Kumey district, Vishakha Yadav, stated that the road towards Damin via Parsi Parlo is severely blocked due to the rainfall, with the RWD working overnight to clear it. The district administration, in collaboration with BRO, is making provisions for Air Force sorties once the weather permits. The continuous rains have caused ongoing roadblocks.
