Aliens exist’, says ex-Israeli space chief

1

December 8: Aliens are real and secretly in touch with America and Israel for years. They are keeping their existence quiet as “humanity isn’t ready yet“, said Haim Eshed, who headed Israel’s space security program for nearly 3 decades.

The claims have been made by a retired Israeli general and current professor Haim Eshed said US President Donald Trump was “on the verge” of disclosing the existence of aliens but he was convinced not to do so by the Galactic Federation.

Galactic Federation cited that they felt it would cause mass hysteria and humans first needed to “evolve and reach a stage where we will… understand what space and spaceships are.” The 87-year-old Haim Eshed made these claims in an interview with the media.

Haim Eshed also said that “There is an agreement between the US government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments. They, too, are researching and trying to understand the whole universe, and they want us as helpers.”

“There’s an underground base in the depths of Mars, where there are Aliens representatives, and also our American astronauts,” he stated.

The former head of Israel’s space security program admitted that all of this appeared to be fantasy but claimed that at least some of his comrades are coming around.

“If I had come up with what I’m saying today five years ago, I would have been hospitalized. Wherever I’ve gone with this in academia, they’ve said, ‘the man has lost his mind,’” he reportedly said before adding, “Today they’re already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I’ve got my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad, where the trend is also changing.”

CM Biplab Deb asks people of Tripura to decide if he should go

Tripura, Dec 8: Days after a group of ruling BJP supporters raised slogans of ‘Biplab Hatao, BJP Bachao’ in front of the party observer Vinod Sonkar, CM Biplab Deb asked people of the state to gather at Astabal Grounds on Sunday and give their mandate on whether he should stay at the post.

“If people want me to go, I shall tell my party high-command likewise and leave,” he told reporters.

Deb’s comments came in the midst of high drama over the last two days, with some party workers seeking his removal during Sonkar’s visit. The BJP observer later claimed that everything is fine in the state’s ruling party.

In October this year, a group of dissident BJP MLAs led by former health minister Sudip Roy Barman, visited Delhi to talk with party president JP Nadda, reportedly to seek Deb’s removal. However, the legislators later said they went to discuss organizational issues.

Deb said he doesn’t harbour any wish to stay in power and would wait for peoples’ mandate on December 13 at Astabal Grounds.

“I want to hear from the people if they want me to be removed. I shall go to Astabal Maidan next Sunday, December 13 at 2 pm. I invite everyone to come and tell me whether I should go or stay. I shall ask 37 lakh people of Tripura to tell me what to do. I shall abide by whatever mandate you give for me and place my wish likewise before my party high command that people of Tripura wanted so,” CM said.

Chief Minister said he has got more than he asked for and the people of Tripura “blessed” had him with the chance to serve as a legislator and Chief Minister, something he never dreamt of.

“I want to work for everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, colour, or any other identity. My only passion is to turn Tripura into the best state in the country. So, I want to know if everyone feels the same way. If yes, I shall do likewise and leave,” he said.

CM claimed since he assumed charge of the state on March 9, 2018, Tripura has gone ahead with the fastest pace among all states of NE India.

“People reposed their faith in Narendra Modi, BJP and me. Accordingly, we have been working on a host of developmental activities including HIRA, HIRA Plus, educational development, infrastructural development with Rs. 11,000 crore project under NHIDCL, SEZ at Sabroom, ICP, Logistics Hub, High-rise buildings, smart city, a new airport, agricultural growth etc. I want to work more,” Deb said.

However, Deb warned that if he stayed in power, he would crack down on criminal and illegal activities. “If someone wants to do mafia-style hooliganism, illegal land brokerage, engage in illegal works, I shall never compromise with them. Never,” he warned.

He also asked the people to ‘decide’ what should be done with those who raised slogans against CM Biplab Kumar Deb. “If you want me to stay, you decide what should be done with people who raised those slogans. I shall uphold whatever you decide.”

The BJP and its tribal alliance partner Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) together won 44 out of 60 seats in the state the legislative assembly, decimating the erstwhile Left Front regime of 25 years.

China and Nepal announce Mount Everest is more than two feet taller

0

December 8: The highest point on Earth, has a newly announced elevation. According to a new joint Chinese-Nepalese calculation, Mount Everest is marginally higher than previously thought. A long-running conflict over the height of the world’s tallest peak, which straddles the countries’ shared border.

Kathmandu and Beijing had differed over its exact height, but after each sent an expedition of surveyors to the summit they have agreed that the official height is 8,848.86 metres (29,032ft), a bit more than their previous calculations.

Nepal previously relied for its measurement on an estimate of 8,848 metres made by the Survey of India in 1954. This was for a long time regarded as the “official” height.

A Chinese measurement in 2005 determined that the rock height of the summit – known as Chomolungmu and Sagamartha in local languages – was 8,844.43 metres (29,017 feet), about 3.7 metres (11 feet) less than the 1954 estimate.

Mount Everest is named after the colonial-era British surveyor George Everest, who never actually saw it. The new measurement will have a little practical impact. K2, the world’s second-highest mountain, is 237 metres lower.

The reason why the newly agreed figure maybe temporary is because the 2,900 km-long Himalayan chains are located on, and was formed by, the uplift caused by the colliding Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which are continuing to push up the Himalaya at an average of 1cm every year.

Chinese surveyors climbed the peak in spring this year, when Mount Everest was closed by both countries for other climbers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Damodar Dhakal, the spokesman for Nepal’s department of the survey, said the Nepali surveyors had used the Global Navigation Satellite System to get “the precise height” of the giant peak.

Both countries sent teams to climb the mountain using GPS and also trigonometry to make the final calculations.

“Once the surveyor’s beacon had been placed on the summit, surveyors at stations around the summit measured the distance from the six points to the beacon, which meant at least six triangles could be calculated to determine the mountain’s height,” Jiang Tao, associate researcher at the Chinese Academy of surveying and mapping, told the state-run China Daily.

Previously mountaineers had suggested a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015 which killed nearly 9,000 people in Nepal might have altered the height of Everest.

George Everest, who had surveyed the Himalayan region as Britain’s surveyor-general of India, in reality, had little direct connection to the mountain, which was named after him at the behest of Royal Geographical Society.

Instead, Andrew Waugh, a surveyor-general, was the first to suggest the mountain was the world’s highest, and not Kanchenjunga, which was previously assumed to be the highest.

Technological peaks:

In 1856, mathematician Radhanath Sickdhar found that Everest is the highest mountain in the world while he was working for the Great Trigonometrical Survey, a project dedicated to surveying and mapping the Indian subcontinent. Since then, a handful of surveys have sought to pin down the mountain’s true height with the best technology available at the time.

Until the advent of satellites, surveyors used a device called a theodolite, a precision optical instrument mounted on a tripod, for measuring angles between two designated points. Lugging their heavy equipment from hilltop to hilltop, a survey team would incrementally measure Everest’s height from sea level, zig-zagging north from the Bay of Bengal until they could see the peak.

A 1954 survey using a similar technique calculated that Everest stands at 29,028 feet above sea level, a number that is still recognized by many countries and map publishers.

Then in 1999 a survey led by cartographer and explorer Bradford Washburn, and sponsored by the National Geographic Society, was the first to use GPS technology to measure the Everest summit. That team’s work delivered an altitude of 29,035—the figure still in use by the Society until the new measurements can be fully verified.

COVID Vaccine: 90-year-old Maggie world’s first to get anti-COVID jab

Dec 8: 90-year-old grandmother Margaret Keenan became the first person in the world to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech jab against COVID as the UK kicked off its biggest-ever vaccine campaign in history on Tuesday.

Maggie was given the life-saving jab by nurse May Parsons at a local hospital in Coventry to mark what the National Health Service (NHS) has dubbed a “landmark moment” on  Vaccine Day in the fight against the deadly virus, COVID

“I am glad to be the first person vaccinated against COVID-19, it’s the best early birthday present I could wish for, it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the New Year,” said Maggie, who turns 91 next week.

Ex jewellery shop assistant has retired four years ago has a daughter, a son, and four grandchildren and is looking forward to being able to go out again after she got the top-up booster dose 21 days later.

“Thanks is just a small word for May and the NHS staff who have looked after me tremendously, and my advice to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it – if I can have it at 90 then you can have it too,” she said.

“I’m glad that I’m able to play a part in this historic day and it’s an honour to be the first person in the country to deliver a COVID-19 jab to a patient” said nurse Parsons.

Maggie is among the first set of people for the jab based on pre-determined health risk criteria who have been contacted in advance by the NHS and will include 87-year-old British Indian grandfather of nine Hari Shukla, who will get his first dose.

“I’m so glad that we are hopefully coming towards the end of this pandemic and I did my bit by having the COVID vaccine, I feel it is my duty to do so and do whatever I can to help,” said Dr Shukla, a race relations campaigner.

They have been picked based on the criteria set by the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization phased rollout based on those at the highest risk of death from the deadly virus.

People aged 80 and home care workers will be first to receive the jab this week, along with NHS workers who are at higher risk among the first to receive the “life-saving jab“.

“Today marks a huge step forward in the UK’s fight against coronavirus, as we begin delivering the vaccine to the first patients across the whole country. I am immensely proud of the scientists who developed the vaccine, members of the public who took part in trials, and the NHS who have worked tirelessly to prepare for rollout” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

However, the Prime Minister of the UK struck a note of caution to say that mass vaccination will take time, and therefore there was a need to remain “clear-eyed” about the challenges that remain.

“As the program ramps up in the weeks and months ahead, it is as important as ever to keep to the COVID Winter plan – following the rules in your area and remember the basics of hands, face and space,” he said.

The Pfizer vaccine got the green light from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) last week, the NHS said.

Workers have been working day and night to manage the huge scale logistical challenge of deploying the vaccine. Over the weekend, hospitals have begun inviting over the 80s in for a jab and work with care home providers to book their staff into vaccination clinics.

“We will look back on today, as a key moment in our fight back against this terrible disease and I am proud of our health services across the United Kingdom are about to embark on our largest ever a vaccination program,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

“With over-80s and frontline health and care staff receiving their vaccinations from today, the whole country will breathe a collective sigh of relief as our most vulnerable loved ones start to be given protection from the virus.

“Now it is the time to sit tight and remain patient until you get notified by the NHS that it’s time for your vaccination. Until then, protect yourselves and the NHS by continuing to follow local restrictions. We can see light at the end of the tunnel but still have a long way to go,” he said.

The Pfizer/BionTech formula is an mRNA vaccine that uses a tiny fragment of genetic code from the pandemic virus to teach the body how to fight COVID-19 and build immunity.

The MHRA has stressed it has been cleared for mass rollout only after “rigorous” safety tests despite the process being speeded up due to the urgency of finding an effective vaccine against COVID that has wreaked havoc around the world.

“Today is just a step in the largest vaccination program this country has ever seen. It will take some months to complete the work. More vaccine supplies become available and until then we must not drop our guard,” said NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens.

Breakdancing is an Olympic sport, to debut in 2024 Paris Games

0

December 8: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given its approval to include breakdancing as an Olympic sport. Breakdancing will make its debut in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The inclusion of Breakdancing into the Olympics has been seen as a measure by the IOC to lure a younger audience. Breakdancing will be called ‘breaking’ at the Olympics.

This was proposed by Paris organizers almost two years ago after positive trials at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.

Breaking, breakdancing, or b-boying was developed in the 1970s in New York City. Since its inception, it has grown into a mainstream form of dance and artistic expression, commonly featured in films and other multimedia.

Meanwhile, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has expressed happiness over the decision taken by the IOC to officially include Breaking (Breakdancing) on the sport program for the Paris Olympic Games.

Along with breakdancing, skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing also got the green light from the IOC for inclusion at 2024 Paris Summer Games.

Skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing are already in the program list of the Tokyo Olympics, which will take place in 2021 after being postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Anna Hazare on fast to support farmers

1

Maharashtra, Dec 8: Social activist Anna Hazare sat on a day-long hunger strike on Tuesday to support agitating farmers who have called Bharat Bandh demanding a repeal of the Centre’s agriculture laws.

Hazare said the agitation should spread across the country so that the government comes under pressure to act in the interest of cultivators.

Anna Hazare appreciated farmers’ protests at the borders of Delhi saying no violence has taken place in the last ten days of the agitation.

“I appeal to the people of the country that the agitation which is going on in Delhi should spread across the country. The situation needs to create pressure on the government, and to achieve this, farmers need to hit the streets. But no one should resort to violence,” Hazare who began his fast in Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra added.

“I had backed this cause earlier also, and will continue to do so,” he said.

Hazare also expressed the importance to grant autonomy to the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and to implement the recommendations of the M S Swaminathan Commission.

The octogenarian warned of an agitation if the government fails to grant autonomy to the CACP and implement recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.

“The government only gave assurances but never fulfilled these demands,” he said.

Life partially hit in Assam; AIKS calls for 12-hr Bandh

1

Assam, Dec 8: Normal life in several parts of Assam was affected partially on Tuesday due to the Bharat Bandh call by farmers’ organizations against the Centre’s alleged anti-farmer policies. AIKS appeals a 12-hour strike.

While the strike has been called from 11 am to 3 pm across the country, the state unit of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has appealed for a 12-hour strike, from 5 am to 5 pm.

There was much less traffic on the streets of Guwahati, the state’s biggest city, on Tuesday morning. Students who have examinations have been exempted from the strike and so have services like drinking water, milk supply, and medical emergencies.

Fourteen opposition parties in the state, including Congress, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Left parties, and the newly formed Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad, have extended support to the strike.

“If the agriculture sector goes into the hands of corporates, it can endanger the food security program of the government. Farmers have not got their due for their produce,” the parties said in a joint statement issued on Sunday.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal under house arrest since his return after visiting farmers

0

Delhi, Dec 8: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi has alleged that CM Arvind Kejriwal has been put under a virtual house arrest since he returned after visiting the farmer’s protest at the Singhu border on Monday. All meetings of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been cancelled.

On the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs, police have placed the three mayors of the municipal corporation of Delhi on dharna outside the main gate of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. Citing this dharna, police have barricaded Kejriwal’s residence, AAP leaders have said.

AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj has said, “Our MLAs are also not being allowed to meet the CM. We will march to the CM’s house and meet him and get him out of the house so that he can stand with the farmers.”

However, Delhi Police sources have refuted the charges. DCP North has said the allegations are a lie and baseless. “Our force is stationed there. Arvind Kejriwal left at 8 pm yesterday and also after 10 pm,” the officer has said.

Saurabh Bhardwaj has further alleged, “CM met farmers at Singhu border yesterday. He had said that we’ll serve them like ‘sevadars‘ and support them. After he returned, Delhi Police barricaded his residence from all sides, putting him in a house-arrest like situation, at the behest of the home ministry.”

“No one is allowed to go inside, he is not allowed to come out. MLAs who had a meeting with the CM yesterday were beaten up by the police when they went to meet him. Workers were not allowed to meet him either. BJP leaders are being made to sit outside his residence,” said Bhardwaj.
