Tripura jawan martyred in Machil sector of J&K

Tripura, 8th November: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Sudip Sarkar from Tripura, was martyred while trying to foil an infiltration attempt in the Machil sector in the Kupwara region of Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday.

Border Security Force took the tweet and share the news, “In the wee hours of 8 Nov’20, @BSF_Kashmir foiled an infiltration attempt in the Machil Sec. 01 terrorist killed and remaining of the group pushed back. Ct Sudip Sarkar continued fighting in spite been hit and ultimately made the supreme sacrifice. @HMOIndia @JmuKmrPolice @ANI.”

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb also share his condemnation with the family of the martyred jawan.

“After midnight yesterday, Captain Sudip Sarkar, a brave soldier of our state, was injured while trying to stop the infiltration of extremists in the fish section of Kashmir and made the highest sacrifice in the ensuing period. I wish the soul of this heroic child of Mother India all the best and extend my condolences to his bereaved family. Om Shanti”, CM wrote in a tweet.

An officer of the Indian Army and three security personnel, including a constable of the Border Security Force or BSF, were killed in the line of duty during a major anti-terror operation along the Line of Control or LoC. Three terrorists were also gunned down in the anti-terror operation.

Manipur coronavirus update: 240 new COVID cases reported in 24 hrs

Manipur, 8th November: In Manipur, 240 persons have reported positive with coronavirus in the last 24 hours. It includes 14 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force. The total count of positive cases so far in the State to 20131. Among the new coronavirus cases in Manipur, 226 are locals and do not have travel history.

3 people have expired due in the past twenty-four hours thus increasing the total fatality in the State to 194.

662 people were discharged in the past 24 hours and the recovery rate improved to 83.02 percent.

The total recovery in 16714 while the number of active cases is 3223.

Delhi government gives sanction to prosecute Umar Khalid

Delhi, 8th November: A prosecution has been sanctioned by the Delhi government against Umar Khalid, the former JNU student leader who was arrested under UPA act on September 13 during the February communal violence of northeast Delhi.

“We have given prosecution sanction in all the Delhi riots related cases registered by the police. Now, it is up to the courts to see who are the accused,” reported a senior Delhi government functionary.

Prosecution sanction against Khalid from both the Delhi government and the Union Home Ministry was received. He was arrested under the stringent anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

“We have received prosecution sanction against Umar Khalid in connection with a case registered against him under the UAPA. We have received sanctions from both the Delhi government and the Ministry of Home Affairs“, said the officer.

He also reported that the prosecution sanctions were received a fortnight ago, so the Delhi Police can now name Khalid in their supplementary charge sheet.

“To prosecute one under section 13 of the UAPA, we need sanction from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which we have already received. For prosecution under section — 16,17 and 18 of the UAPA, we have received sanction from the Delhi government,” the officer said.

Manipur by-polls: 92% voting turnout in the four assembly seats

Manipur, 8th November: The by-polls to four Assembly constituencies in Manipur conducted on Saturday concluded peacefully with a high voter turnout of 92.54 per cent. Around 2,294 polling personnel, including security, are being stationed in the 203 polling stations spread across the four constituencies for the voting.

Manipur by-polls were necessitated after four Congress MLAs resigned from the Assembly and joined the ruling BJP. Counting of votes will be held on November 10. Voters’ turnout rate in every polling booth is reported high.

The election was conducted with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol issued by the Election Commission, amid tight security arrangements. Voters were seen queuing up to exercise their franchise by maintaining physical distancing and wearing hand gloves and masks. Face masks, hand sanitizers, and hand gloves were distributed in every polling booth by the ASHA and Anganwadi workers as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during elections.

For the first time, the state has introduced ‘mark-III’ electronic voting machine (EVM) and voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) that are procured from Assam and Mizoram and manufactured by ECI limited.

Wangoi Assembly segment recorded the highest voter turnout with 93.26 per cent, followed by Lilong (93.3 per cent), Wangjing Tentha (92.3 per cent) and Saitu (91.59 per cent).

The exact division of vote according to the polling station is:

Lilong has 32,398 voters (15,877 males, 16,518 females) and 49 polling stations. In all, 833 polling parties, including police personnel are stationed in Lilong. Three candidates including one INC and two Independents candidates are in the fray. They are Md Abdul Nasir of the Independent, Y Antas Khan of the Independent, and Me Azizul Haque Khan of the INC.

Wangjing Tentha has 31,213 voters (15,053 males, 16,160 females) and 43 polling stations out of which two polling stations 34/4 and 34/5 are sensitive. 34/14 and 34/15 polling stations will be manned by woman polling personnel only. Three candidates including BJP, INC, and Independent are in the fray. They are Paonam Brojen of the BJP, Moirangthem Hemanta Singh of the INC, and Sarangthem Manaobi of the Independent. In all, 731 polling parties, including police personnel are stationed in Wangjing Tentha.

Wangoi has a total number of 205 polling personnel, including security will be used in 41 polling stations and 28828 voters will cast their votes to seal the fate of three candidates, BJP, NPP, and INC. The candidates are Onaim Lukhoi Singh of the BJP, Khuraijam Loken Singh of the NPP, and Salam Joy Singh of the INC

Saitu by-polls will be a straight fight between arch-rival BJP and INC. Veteran politician and BJP candidate, Ngamthang Haokip will be up against a new face Lamtinthang Haokip of INC.

Around 525 polling personnel and security are stationed in 70 polling stations. There are 40,257 eligible voters in Saitu out of which 19,755 are male voters and 20,498 are female voters apart from four other voters. Of the 70 polling stations, 17 polling stations are identified as critical and seven polling stations are identified as vulnerable while the remaining 46 polling stations are identified as normal.

Sonowal seeks steps by Centre in managing the border issues

Assam, 8th November: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal sought steps by the centre to maintain peace and harmony along with the border issues.

Sonowal even called Union Home Minister on Saturday seeking necessary from Central government over the situation. He assured Amit Shah about that the state would follow the directives by the Centre to manage the border situation.

Tension along the Assam-Mizoram increased after miscreants from Mizoram allegedly hurled a bomb at a school in the Upper Painom village near Hawaithang in south Assam’s Cachar district on Friday night.

At a meeting held at Janata Bhawan in Dispur, the Chief Minister reviewed the present situation of the border issues. Chief secretary Jishnu apprised the chief minister about the current problems regarding the Assam-Mizoram border. DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta informed him about the steps taken for keeping law and order situation in control. Sonowal directed the top officials to maintain peace and harmony in the border region.

While on the other hand, Tripura CM has urged his Mizoram counterpart to take up the Fuldangsei issue with the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA). He said, “If anybody has any objection over a particular area of the inter-State border, the concerned individual or State can approach the MHA to check the geographical map of the spot.“

Stating that there should not be any issues over territory within the country, he said, ” Under the federal structure, the MHA is the competent authority to check the geographical area of a particular area. Everybody should respect the inter-State border prepared by the competent authority.”

Joe Biden wins U.S Presidency beat Donald Trump

America, 7th November: Joe Biden has won the US presidency over Donald Trump to become the 46th U.S. president on Saturday.

Joe Biden tweeted his gratitude at being elected the president. “America, I’m honoured that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me,” he tweeted.

With Joe Biden’s victory in the US election 2020, Kamala Harris is set to become the first woman vice president of America and the first person of colour to hold the post.

The California Senator is the fourth woman to be on a major party’s presidential ticket. The first woman to achieve this feat was Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, followed by Sarah Palin in 2008, and Hillary Clinton in 2016. Harris, who will be sworn in as vice president in January, is also the first woman in the US to be on a successful ticket.

CNN and NBC News were among the television networks that called the race in his favour, minutes after projecting that he had won the key state of Pennsylvania, securing its 20 electoral votes and crossing the 270-mark needed to win the presidency.

Tripura CM launches eco-friendly diyas

Tripura, 7th November: With Diwali festivities coming up soon, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched eco-friendly diyas on Friday.

Tripura CM introduced the bamboo candles and as an attempt to motivate the unemployed youths to be job-creators rather than job-seekers.

Speaking on the occasion of it, the CM said: “Bamboo products will help reduce unemployment problems in the state.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspired the chief minister’s approach for a new India. Artisans from Sipahijala made eco-friendly bamboo diyas.

“Bring these ideas to your home this Diwali and help fulfil PM Narendra Modiji’s vision of an Atma Nirbhar Bharat, It’s time to show support to traditional items,” said the Chief Minister. While launching the bamboo candles, he said, “This will boost robust employment.”

Chief Minister Deb launched the locally-made eco-friendly diyas at the Secretariat. Earlier, the women’s self-help groups showed him the products.

BJP’ protest rally against the pro-Pak slogans at the Silchar Airport

Assam, 7th November: BJP organised a mass protest rally at the Silchar city, opposing the pro-Pak slogans like “Pakistan Zindabad“, that were raised by the supporters of Badruddin Ajmal at the Silchar Airport.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that supporters of Badruddin Ajmal, president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), had raised “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans on his arrival at the Silchar Airport. The Cachar district BJP has condemned the act and called out a massive protest rally.

The president of Cachar district BJP, Kaushik Rai said, “The way Pakistan Zindabad slogans were raised in the Silchar Airport to welcome Badruddin Azmal in the state, is a matter of concern. We strongly condemn the anti-national activities“. The rally was scheduled at 11.30 am from the BJP party office.

All India United Democratic Front (AIDUF), on the other hand, has however claimed that the slogans raised were “Aziz Khan Zindabad“.  The national general secretary of  AIUDF said, ” Hemanta Biswa Sarma has used rhyming words and peddled the wrong theory“. He has even demanded a high-level enquiry of the matter. He even added, “There were security personnel, CISF jawans, Assam Police head officials, and how come someone says Pakistan in such a gathering“.

SP DC went to inspect the school destroyed in Assam-Mizo border

Northeast, 7th October: Assam-Mizo border miscreants caused a bomb blast on Friday night in a school located at Cachar district’s Upper Painom area, Assam-Mizo Border.

The incident occurred at around 1.30 am causing extensive damage to the school property. However, there were no causalities reported.

The school was recently taken over by the Mizoram IR Battalion. The Superintendent of Police along with the Deputy Commissioner was present at the spot.

Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli reported, “Last night there was a bomb blast in Upper Painom Lower Primary School. Three blasts could be heard. Both DC and SP went to the spot as soon as the news was received this morning. Who did this or how it had happened, the entire inquiry will be done? I request everyone to maintain peace and gentleness. I was the first one to reach this morning, so I am taking the situation very seriously. I request the public to not take any law in public or take any action. We will look into the end of it but we request everybody to be patient. No casualty has been reported since the building was empty because of COVID.

“It is a school in the Cachar district and everyone gets midday meals from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. FIR will have been launched and we will take further action,” Jalli added.

ACKHSA calls 12 hrs. Bandh in Barak Valley

Northeast, 7th November: In the backdrop of the border dispute between Assam & Mizoram, a 12 hour Cachar Bandh has been called by All Cachar Karimganj Haliakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) on Saturday.

The ‘Barak Bandh’ called by ACKHSA has started at 5:00 AM in the morning and will extend till 5:00 PM in the evening. Since in the morning the members of ACKHSA have been seen standing at Highway with placards.

Silchar District Congress Committee has also come forward to support this Bandh along with other parties. Some nonpolitical organization also extended the support.

Rupam Nandi Purakayastha, founder of ACKHSA said “We called the 12 hrs Band in Barak Valley due to Assam – Mizoram dispute. Mizoram police have captured the 2 km land of Assam in the border area. Not only this they also kidnapped an Assam people and after that killed him. To protest on this matter we call this Bandh. Our Bandh is been successful till now. We strongly condemn the atrocities of Mizoram upon the people of Assam. We are demanding to demolish the present government of Mizoram and presidential rule in that state.  We call this bandh to send a message to the Central government.”
