Assam: DC, SP, scribes sent to quarantine after came into contact with COVID-19 patient.

Guwahati, April 16: Government officials and some journalists of Assam’s Morigaon district were sent to quarantine after they reportedly came into contact with a COVID-19 positive patient.

Confirming the report, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Morigaon district sent to quarantine as they came into contact with a COVID-19 positive patient.

Apart from the two top government officials, few journalists of the district were also sent to quarantine.

Two fresh positive cases for COVID-19 were reported from Morigaon district on Thursday and many people have reportedly come into contact with one among the two COVID-19 positive patients.

After two persons of the Lahorighat area in Morigaon district tested positive for COVID-19, the state Health Department has asked the government officials and the journalists to go for quarantine.

According to the reports, the government official duo and few journalists took part in a program at the Bhurbandha Lahorighat area in the central Assam district on March 31 where the COVID-19 patient was also present.

A total of 34 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Assam so far and one positive patient from Hailakandi district died last week.

Coronavirus lockdown: Many migrant workers from Assam still fighting for livelihood:

Guwahati, April 16: Migrant laborers from Assam stranded in many states of the country due to lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and most of them are facing hardships.

The migrant laborers from Assam are stranded in many states such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Delhi, Rajasthan and many other states of the country since the lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The migrant workers are facing many more difficulties like as to search, purchase foods, shelter places etc during the lockdown period.

The Assam government has recently announced to reach out and help these migrant workers stranded outside Assam by providing financial aid, but the workers are still facing a lot of problems.

36-year-old Md Ishak Ali – a migrant worker hailing from Assam’s Karimganj district, has been stranded at the Dharavi area in Mumbai where 71 people tested positive for COVID-19.

“We are eight people and all are migrant workers, stranded here since the lockdown announced by the Prime Minister. We are following all rules and orders of lockdown directed by the government. We have now no money. Our ration, food items are also almost finished,” Md Ishak Ali said.

He also said that, they are facing many difficulties and they want to return to Assam.

Ishak and his friends have appealed to the Assam government to help them.

Not only, Ishak, there are many migrant workers from have also faced similar problems during the lockdown period.

30-year-old Bina Bodo – another migrant worker from Assam’s Sonitpur district is stuck in Mumbai since lockdown started.

Bina Bodo said that, she came to Mumbai for searching for employment to help her parents and other family members.

“All works are now halted due to lockdown and we are facing many problems. We are appealing to the Assam government to help us,” Bina Bodo said.

On the other hand, another migrant worker from Assam’s Karimganj district said that, many migrant workers from Assam are now stranded in Mumbai and struggling to live.

“We have now no money to purchase foods and our ration stock is almost finished. There is no work here and we are now locked in a room. We have no relatives or friends in Maharashtra and so we are facing various problems,” the migrant worker said.

Earlier, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that, the state government will provide financial aid to the students, wage laborers, pilgrims who are stranded outside of the state due to lockdown.

“We have been getting a lot of queries that, many people from the state are facing hardships in different parts of the country due to lockdown. Many people from poor and middle-class families are still stranded outside of the state and facing a lot of problems. The figure could be between 50,000 to 4 lakh. Our government has decided to extend financial support to them. So that, we have launched a helpline number 9615471547 and those in need will have to give a missed call to the helpline number and they will get a voice mail and SMS with a link. They will have to update their information and bank account details,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam reports two new COVID-19 positive cases, tally surges to 34:

Guwahati, April 16: Assam on Thursday reported two new positive cases for COVID-19 with taking the state tally increased to 34.

The new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from the Morigaon district.

Confirming the report, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, two persons from Morigaon district have tested positive for COVID-19 and they both are secondary contacts of Nizamuddin Markaz attendees.

He further said that, the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive patients in the state now stands at 34 and out of that, five patients have been cured and discharged from the hospitals.

Earlier on April 14, a woman from Dhubri district was tested positive for COVID-19 and she is the wife of a COVID-19 patient.

In the last 24 hours, five COVID-19 patients of the state were discharged from the hospitals after they were cured.

Assam has reported 34 positive cases for COVID-19 so far including nine cases from Golaghat district, six from Morigaon district, four each from Nalbari, Goalpara, Dhubri districts, and one each from South Salmara, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Cachar and Hailakandi district.

One COVID-19 positive patient from Hailakandi district died on April 10.

The first COVID-19 positive patient of Manipur, who was undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

The 23-year-old woman who had a travel history to the UK tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23 and was admitted to the isolation ward of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

She first tested negative on April 4 and the confirmatory test report also came in as negative.

Five patients who tested positive for COVID-19 have been discharged from Assam hospitals:

Guwahati, April 16: Five COVID-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Assam in the last 24 hours.

Three COVID-19 patients who were treated at Goalpara civil hospital were discharged from the hospital on Thursday in the presence of Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and his junior Pijush Hazarika.

Earlier, two other patients were discharged from Sonapur COVID-19 hospital on Wednesday evening.

The Assam Health minister said that, all the patients were related to Nizamuddin Markaz and they will now be under 14-day home quarantine.

“These patients recent test reports come out negative and the active COVID-19 patients in Assam are slowly recovering,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam has reported 32 positive cases for COVID-19 so far.

A COVID-19 positive patient from Hailakandi district died on April 10.

Coronavirus: Assam man distributes food items to poor and needy people by not doing his wife’s Shraddha.

Guwahati, April 16: Assam man distributes food items to poor and needy. A man from Assam’s Hojai district has shown humanity during the crisis hours by distributing food items to poor and needy people by not doing Shraddha of his wife.

52-year-old Golap Gogoi – by profession, he is a driver and hailing from Bhelouguri are in Hojai district, had lost his wife a few years back and have been doing Shraddha (a ceremony performed in honor of a dead ancestor) of his wife every year.

But this year due to Coronavirus lockdown, he canceled all religious rites and decided to help some poor and needy families by providing food items.

The man helped 32 nearby poor families by distributing food items in his capacity by not doing Shraddha.

Golap Gogoi said that, he is very happy to help the poor and needy people and it is the best tribute to his wife.

“After consultation with some elder people of my village, I had decided to help some poor and needy people by providing food items,” Golap Gogoi said.

Assam has reported 32 positive cases for COVID-19 so far and one patient among them was died due to the dreaded virus.

Heavy cyclonic storm lashes Guwahati and many parts of Assam:

Guwahati, April 15: Cyclonic storm hit parts of Assam on Wednesday evening.

The severe sand storm hit the capital city of Assam and other parts of the state followed by a mild shower.

Several properties in Guwahati and some parts of Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup districts were reportedly damaged in the massive storm.

As the cyclonic storm hit parts of Assam, several houses, roadside hoardings, uprooting electric poles, trees got destroyed because of the storm.

The power supply in Guwahati was snapped for a few hours.

The storm is locally known as ‘Bordoisila’ experienced every year in the spring season, which refers to a wild wind that is accompanied by heavy rain and thunderstorms and it marks the beginning of monsoon season.
