Assam reports 16 COVID-19 positive cases within 36 hours.

Guwahati, April 2 : Assam reports 16 COVID-19 positive cases. Three more positive cases for COVID-19 have been reported in Assam, who attended the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.

With three new cases, total number of positive cases for COVID-19 in Assam has been increased to 16.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, three more COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Goalpara district in Assam and they had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz.

Earlier, 13 positive cases for COVID-19 were reported in Assam including eight from Golaghat district, three from Morigaon and one each from Nalbari and Karimganj district and all cases were linked with Nizamuddin Markaz.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, all 16 cases are those people who participated in Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz.

All 16 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Assam in last 36 hours.

Airports in North East serving life line for ferrying Medical goods to fight COVID-19.

Guwahati, April 1 : Amid global crisis arising due to outbreak of Coronavirus, all commercial schedule, non-schedule flights in India were suspended, but to cater to emergency services and to ferry crucial cargo and medical equipment, north east airports are serving an essential role.

Most of the major Airports in the region have operationalised watch hours at Guwahati, Agartala, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Silchar, Shillong, Dimapur, Tezpur, Lilabari and others as and when required.

Usha Padhee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation said that to address the seamless movement of air cargo, a high level committee has been constituted with Secretaries. As faced by ICMR, moving medicine/ accessories in small quantities to various places through commercial freighters becoming difficult. Existing freighters are mostly covering trunk routes.

Same may be the case for States. Above referred committee is empowered to hire dedicated charters for the air cargo purpose. All states are requested to put up their specific request in the following template. Air cargo details:

Sanjeev Jindal , Regional Executive Director, AAI said that – “All our NE airports are open in one general shift with minimum operational staffs and officers from ATC, Airport Operations, Fire, CNS etc to support cargo movements to help people and agencies in the region. If required we are ready to extend the watch hours at these airports and can be made available on a call for any emergency.”

Earlier AAI, North East HQ under the Regional Executive Director’s initiative donated Rs. 50 Lakhs to the Govt of Assam and Rs 10 lakh each to the rest of the State Govts in North East Region to fight against Corona Virus.

The first cargo was ferried by the state govt of Tripura by VTENZ, Pawan Hans Helicopter operating from Agartala to Kolkata on March 26 with transient halt at Guwahati and Bagdogra for refuelling, departed Agartala at 11.07 am( IST) and landed at Guwahati at around 12.40 pm(IST).

Helicopter then returned to Agartala on March 27 at around 5 pm. It was on a medical mission to bring medical kits connected with COVID -19 for the state government.

The first cargo flight operated by Air India landed at MBB Airport, Agartala at 13:40 Hrs on March 28 carrying 77 Cartons of essential items and weighing 457 kg. The flight came from Kolkata and it returned same day itself to Kolkata.

It’s a big relief for the people of Tripura that the government is ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential items. AAI is also doing its best by opening ATC watch and ensuring the expeditious landing of Cargo flights at MBB Airport and other Airports where these cargo flights are scheduled to operate.

At Dimapur Airport in Nagaland, One air force aircraft came from Hindon airport to Imphal with medical equipment etc.at 1:00 pm IST.

An IAF Flight from Hindon (Delhi) to Port Blair was also on en-route. Air force operated one flight to Imphal, Manipur on March 29 and another cargo flight last day with total cargo delivered for two days carrying a total of 5.5 tonnes of relief equipments.

Meanwhile Air INDIA has also been roped in to ferry air cargo, A DEL-GAU (Air India 1675 ) on March 31 delivered 263 Pkg of 2312 Kg for Nagaland Govt, 10 Pkg of 176 Kg for Govt of Meghalaya, 10 Pkgof 1357 Kgs for Assam Govt, 4 Pkg of 78 Kg for ITBP, Guwahati, 57 Pkg of 502 Kg for Govt of Arunachal Pradesh. It had Commodity mainly consisting of Medical Equipment/ Medical Goods.

Similar cargo flight and helicopter services are expected to cover entire NER and adjacent areas as per requirements raised by the state governments.

Four new COVID-19 positive cases reported in Assam, total count reaches 5.

Guwahati, April 1 : Four more positive cases for COVID-19 have been reported in Assam on Wednesday and with this total number of COVID-19 cases have been increased to five in the state so far.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that, four new positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

The Assam minister further said that, these people had visited Nizamuddin area in Delhi.

According to the reports, among the new four cases one youth is 19-year-old and he is hailing from Nalbari district and other three persons are from Jagiroad area in Morigaon district.

Earlier, a 52-year-old man from Karimganj district was found positive for COVID-19 at Silchar Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

The Assam minister further said that, four more persons from Assam have also found positive for COVID-19 outside of the state.

“347 people who visited the Nizamuddin Dargah had returned back to Assam from Delhi and the state government has identified 230 out of them last night. We have collected 196 samples and sent it for testing,” the minister said.

He also said that, 117 people are still untraced who had visited the Nizamuddin area.

Seven positive cases for COVID-19 have been reported in the North Eastern region so far including five from Assam and one each from Manipur and Mizoram.

Assam government sounded high alert after detecting first positive case, 130 returnees from Nizamuddin tested for COVID-19

Guwahati, April 1 : Assam government sounded high alert across the state after a 52-year-old man hailing from Karimganj district, who also visited Nizamuddin Dargarh area found positive for COVID-19.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, a total of 130 people who visited Nizamuddin Dargah area have been sent to quarantine centres and directed to all districts administration to locate other persons who returned to the state.

“They have been tested for the novel Coronavirus and the results will be available on Wednesday,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

On Tuesday, the Assam minister said that, a total of 456 people from Assam were found in and around the Nizamuddin Dargah area.

It is the first positive case of COVID-19 in Assam and third in the North Eastern region.

On the other hand, the state government has directed the districts administration to identify the persons who came into contact with the 52-year-old man when he returned back to the state from Delhi.

A top official of the state health department said that, the administration has identified few people who came into contact with the Karimganj man.

“We have sent the people including two sons of the man to the quarantine centres in different districts,” the health department official said.

According to the reports, the 52-year-old man – a diabetic and cancer patient had gone to Delhi on March 5 and stayed at a hotel and also visited Jama Masjid and Nizamuddin area.

Silchar Medical College Hospital Chief Superintendent Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah said that, the patient had visited Jama Masjid and Nizamuddin area while he was staying in Delhi.

“He returned back to Guwahati from Delhi on March 10 and stayed at Athgaon area in Guwahati and reached Badarpur on March 13. The patient was admitted at Silchar Medical College Hospital on March 29 evening and the NIV Pune has also given green signal of positive,” Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah said.

On the other hand, Assam MP Naba Kumar Sarania had also visited the Nizamuddin area and he has confessed it via his Facebook page.

Earlier, a 23-year-old girl of Manipur and 50-year-old man of Mizoram were found positive for COVID-19.

The virus that first emerged in China in December last year. The virus has spread to 97 countries and has infected more than 175,721 people already. More than 6000 people have been killed due to the virus so far.

Advisory from Assam Government on Coronavirus: All Schools, Colleges, shopping malls, Cinema Halls, Gyms, Swimming Pools to remain closed in the state till March 29 with immediate effect.

Essential services to continue operations. Shopping malls with essential services etc. to remain open for the time being. The board examinations will continue as scheduled.

Further, Assam government has taken the decision as a precautionary measure to check community transmission of Coronavirus.

Till date, 10,605 persons have been surveyed.

599 persons who have come into contact with COVID-19 positive cases identified and kept under home surveillance.

5 symptomatic patients’ samples tested and all found negative as on March 13.

Multiple blasts rock Assam on Republic Day

 

Multiple bomb blasts rock people in Assam on Republic Day, 2020. There were no reports of any deaths as most people were mostly indoors since it was a holiday. According to the reports, one blast took place at Tiyakghat Tiniali area near Sonari in Assam’s Charaideo district. Following the explosion top police officials had rushed to the area and collected splinter and other items from the area.

On the other hand, second blast took place at Dibrugarh Graham Bazar area in Dibrugarh district.

Third blast took place at Marwaripatty  Gurudwara area in Dibrugarh town and fourth in oil town Duliajan district on Sunday morning.

Fifth blast took place at Koliapani bridge near Doomdooma in Tinsukia district.

The incident comes at a time when the country was celebrating its 71st Republic Day on 26th of January, 2020.

‘Cut Assam from India’ statement : Assam police registered a case against Sharjeel Imam

Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government has registered a sedition case against Shaheen Bagh protests main organizer Sharjeel Imam for his ‘cut Assam from India’ statement.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, Assam police has already registered a case against Sharjeel Imam, who is the main organizer of Shaheen Bagh protests.

“The state government has taken cognizance of this seditious statement and has decided to register a case against him,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Guwahati city police crime branch has registered a case (case no 1/2020) against Sharjeel Imam under sections of 13(1)/18 of UAPA and 153 (A), 153 (B), 124 of IPC.

The Assam minister also said that, it is the first time that somebody protesting against Hindu, Sikh, Christian people.

The Assam minister said that, the state government is going to pursue the case and bring the person to law so that he can be punished in accordance to the law.

“The entire agitation whether it is Shaheen Bagh or rest of India, these has been fan out by certain members of certain community who wants to destroy India, who wants to create another Pakistan out of India. So we have to remain vigilant. The people of Assam and North East will not allow anybody to take or create Assam out of India. Assam is an integral part of India. Nobody has the authority and right to say that Assam will be cut out of India,” the Assam minister said.

Several NE insurgent groups call for boycott R-Day celebration, security beefed up

Ahead of the Republic Day celebration, security has been beefed up in Assam and other parts of the North Eastern region.

Several banned militant groups of the North Eastern region have called for boycotting the Republic Day celebrations in the region.

The Assam police, CRPF, BSF personnel have been deployed in all sensitive areas of Assam.

Checking, patrolling are underway in different places of Assam and other parts of the North Eastern region in the run-up to the Republic Day celebrations.

In Karimganj district of Assam, the BSF personnel have also increased vigil in the bordering areas along Indo-Bangladesh border.

About 14 insurgent groups of the North Eastern region including banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independence) or ULFA (I), CorCom in Manipur have called for boycotting the Republic Day celebrations and called shut down the region on January 26.
