Gangtok, Nov 28: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, responding to recent allegations of his family’s involvement in government affairs, emphatically denied the claims and asserted his commitment to transparency and accountability in the administration.

Speaking at the Teyongsi Sirijunga Sawan Yen celebrations in Hee-Martam, Gyalshing district, Tamang addressed the concerns and pledged to resign immediately if any evidence surfaced supporting the alleged involvement of his son in supplying goods to government departments.

Tamang specifically refuted accusations of assigning oxygen supply or equipment-related tasks to his son and clarified that no such responsibilities were given to his wife. He also spoke about the charitable initiatives led by his younger son through ‘Garib Jan Kalyan Prokasta,’ emphasizing that the organization is dedicated solely to the welfare of impoverished citizens in Sikkim.

Tamang stressed that the organization, funded by donations, focuses on providing financial assistance for medical treatments, surgeries, and operations, without involvement in the supply of medicines, medical equipment, or offering advice to healthcare professionals.

To address concerns about potential conflicts of interest, the Chief Minister discussed the role of his brother, who works as a contractor. Tamang assured that strict measures were in place to prevent his brother from engaging in any government-related projects.

He stated, “As soon as our government was formed, I strictly told my brother that he could not do any government-related work.”

Expressing concern about the spread of misinformation in the digital age, Tamang urged caution in sharing unverified claims. He emphasized the importance of responsible information-sharing in a time dominated by mobile phones, laptops, and other technological platforms.
