The Chief Minister also pointed out that Tripura and the entire Northeast region are blessed with unparalleled natural beauty and ecological hotspots. He suggested that research in the universities of Northeast India should begin with an in-depth study of the region itself. This research would involve exploring how the region can contribute to sustainability amidst the pressures of materialistic development.

Dr. Saha called on the authorities of all universities in the Northeast to collaborate and invest their knowledge capital in conducting comprehensive studies of the region. This effort would lead to the generation of new insights into global sustainability and promote an Earth-centric focus in university curricula.

He further encouraged Tripura University to embrace the “vocal for local” motto promoted by the Prime Minister. This involves highlighting the rich cultural, ethnic, ecological, and natural diversity of Tripura and the Northeast by promoting region-specific bodies of knowledge through academic initiatives.

Chief Minister Manik Saha’s call for universities in the Northeast to focus on sustainability research underscores the importance of harnessing local knowledge and resources to address global challenges. By prioritizing research and embracing sustainability as a core principle, these universities can contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for the region and the world.
