3. Clash over manifesto content highlights differing political narratives and campaign strategies.

New Delhi, April 17: The clash over election manifestos has emerged as a focal point in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, igniting tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.

The Congress criticized the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ or ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’ manifesto, labeling it as a document full of empty promises or ‘jumps patra’.

It accused the BJP of shifting its goals from the 2019 promises of two crore jobs annually and doubling farmer incomes to now projecting these goals for 2047. The Congress alleged that the BJP failed to fulfill its earlier promises.

In response, the BJP filed a complaint with the Election Commission, accusing the Congress manifesto, titled ‘Ghar Ghar Guarantee’, of promoting corrupt practices amounting to bribery.

This exchange echoes past disputes, notably during the Karnataka polls, where the Congress’ promises, termed ‘Revdis’, played a significant role in its victory.

The BJP criticized these pledges as detrimental to the economy and questioned their effectiveness in improving living standards.

Rajan highlighted the importance of enhancing human capital and skill development to retain talent within India.

Despite acknowledging the potential of India’s young population as a demographic dividend, he stressed that the country is not fully capitalizing on this advantage.

He pointed out that India’s current growth rate of around 6 percent falls short compared to other countries during their demographic dividend periods.

Rajan’s remarks underscored the urgency for India to address structural challenges and create an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and job creation.

He called for policies that enable young Indians to realize their aspirations within the country, rather than seeking opportunities overseas.

Ram Navami festivities in recent years have often evolved into political battlegrounds, marked by rallies escalating into major confrontations and communal unrest.

Notably, clashes erupted in Howrah on March 30 last year, spreading to North Dinajpur and Hooghly, resulting in injuries to ten individuals.

Earlier this week, the Calcutta High Court granted permission for Ram Navami processions in Howrah on April 17, with certain conditions imposed.

The state government’s proposal for an alternative route was contested, leading to the court’s decision.

The Hindu Jagran Manch anticipates widespread participation in the Ram Navami processions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order.

Member Subhajit Roy Manch urged people to ensure equal celebration of festivals for all faiths while discouraging hindrances from any quarters.

Meanwhile, political rhetoric surrounding Ram Navami has intensified, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of attempting to obstruct the festivities.

In response, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of inciting riots ahead of the elections. Modi hailed the high court’s decision as a “victory for truth,” asserting the inevitability of Ram Navami celebrations.

Conversely, Banerjee warned against falling into the BJP’s alleged trap of communal polarization, urging vigilance to thwart potential riots.
