New Delhi, May 13: The Board of Cricket Council in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah and India captain Rohit Sharma were present at the unveiling ceremony of India’s new kit for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A recent video shared by BCCI’s official social media handle captures their close examination of the new colors, followed by a discussion between them.

At the event, renowned German sportswear manufacturer Adidas showcased various kits, including those for training, coaching staff, and the main playing kit.

Adidas had previously teased India’s new kit through a video on social media, featuring Indian cricket stars Rohit, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja welcoming the new attire at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

The new kit features a vibrant blend of blue on the main body with light orange sleeves. Additionally, two orange stripes run parallel along the waist-side, complemented by Adidas’s trademark white stripes. The main kit also boasts tri-colored stripes on its collar.

India has been sporting designs by Adidas ever since the BCCI signed a multi-year contract with them on May 23, 2023.

Before Adidas, the clothing brand Killer Jeans by MPL served as India’s kit sponsors. Since the partnership announcement, several Indian cricket stars have showcased the new attire in various modeling roles.

With India already unveiling their squad for the upcoming World Cup campaign starting on June 5, they emerge as strong contenders for the title, given their stellar performances in recent T20I fixtures.

Speaking at a public gathering in Patiala, Punjab, Sarma expressed confidence in Modi’s candidacy for the state. He remarked, “North and West India have already given their full support to PM Modi. Now, even East India is considering the same. I believe Punjab will also favor him.”

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, scheduled for June 1, 2024, hold significance as the state contributes 13 Lok Sabha constituencies.

Sarma asserted that Modi possesses the qualities to offer effective leadership to Punjab, contrasting this with the perceived limitations of both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress.

Following Tuesday, temperatures could increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

A yellow alert has been issued by the IMD for thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, across most districts on Monday.

In Kolkata on Sunday, the daytime maximum temperature reached 32.7 degrees Celsius, with humidity peaking at 93 percent.

The sky remained mostly cloudy. Additionally, an orange alert was issued for thunderstorms, rain, and lightning in portions of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, West Burdwan, East Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia.

In other parts of southern Bengal, Jhargram recorded a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, while temperatures in Bankura, Sriniketan, Burdwan, Asansol, and Barrackpore ranged from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius on May 11.

On the northern side, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur districts may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds throughout the week.

An orange alert has been issued for gusty winds, with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, in various locations.

83 individuals detained for violations in Manipur; NH-2 vehicle movement ensured

These measures aimed to bolster security and maintain control over areas prone to insurgent activities or other security threats.

To facilitate the smooth transportation of essential goods, 42 vehicles were escorted along NH-2, ensuring their safe passage through potentially risky zones.

Rigorous security protocols were implemented in vulnerable areas, with security convoys deployed along sensitive stretches to safeguard the movement of these vehicles, thereby preventing any disruptions to the supply chain of essential items.

Guwahati, May 13: Renowned human rights activist and Padma Shri awardee, Birubala Rabha, who dedicated her life to combating the scourge of witch-hunting, breathed her last this morning at approximately 9:23 am while undergoing treatment at the State Cancer Institute in Guwahati.

The Assam Government had previously pledged to cover the expenses for her medical care, demonstrating recognition of her invaluable contributions to society.

The decision to support Rabha’s treatment was announced by Assam Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary following his visit to the State Cancer Institute to assess her health last Saturday. Rabha had been admitted to the institute on April 22, 2024, battling cancer in its advanced third stage.

Expressing profound sorrow at Rabha’s passing, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media, stating, “I am deeply distressed to learn about the passing away of Padma Shri Smt Birubala Rabha. Through her untiring efforts to end social evils she illuminated the paths of scores of women with hope and confidence. Rising through a challenging life, she epitomised courage against all odds. Assam will forever remain grateful for her leadership in serving society.”

Despite initial reports of a slight improvement in Rabha’s condition on May 4, following her transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), her health subsequently deteriorated, culminating in her passing today.

Birubala Rabha’s legacy transcends her battle with cancer. As a tireless activist, she spearheaded extensive campaigns against witch-hunting and played a pivotal role in the enactment of the Prevention of and Protection from Witch Hunting Act, 2015, by the Assam Government.

Her organization, Mission Birubala, continues to raise awareness about the grave dangers of witch-hunting prevalent in society, ensuring that her advocacy persists even in her absence.

This temporary outage is necessary to facilitate essential maintenance activities.

As per the announcement by the Manager of Singjamei sub-division, IED-III, MSPDCL, the power supply will be interrupted from 10:30 am to 4 pm on Monday.

The Election Commission of India received 4,264 nominations for these constituencies, with 1,717 candidates in the final fray. Telangana had the highest number of nominations at 1,488, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 1,103 nominations across 25 constituencies.
