This attack, the first on their remote camp, underscores the dangers faced by security forces in the area. Singh pledged to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served.

Addressing the media, Singh condemned the anti-national and anti-social ideologies behind such attacks, expressing hope for their eventual dissolution. He also acknowledged the diverse sources of weapons used by militants, including locally made, imported, and looted arms.

Citing authority under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission has mandated a re-poll, scheduled for April 30, 2024.

The affected polling stations identified for the re-poll are:

  • 44-Ukhrul (ST) 44/20-Shangshak A
  • 44/36-Ukhrul (A)
  • 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1)
  • 44/50-Ukhrul (F)
  • 45-Chingai (ST) 45/14-Chingai
  • 47-Karong (ST) 47/33-Oinam (A1)

Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, Pradeep Kumar Jha, has appealed to all eligible voters within these polling stations to actively participate in the re-polling process.

The voting hours are scheduled from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the designated date.

In a formal letter dated April 26, 2024, addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) outlined alarming incidents of electoral malpractice.

These included EVM machine destruction, booth capture, poll rigging, and forced voting allegedly carried out by unidentified armed individuals during the April 26, 2024, polling for the 18th Lok Sabha Election-2024 within the 43-Phungyar (ST) Assembly Constituency and the 44-Ukhrul (ST) Assembly Constituency, both situated within the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

The letter highlighted severe disruptions at several polling stations within the constituencies. Instances included the destruction of EVM machines at polling station No. 43/19 – Shingkap, Shingkap Govt. High School, and booth capture and rigging at polling station No. 43/46 – Nambashi Khullen, Nambashi Kullen Govt. High School, among others.

In these instances, polling agents of the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, Shri Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur, were reportedly prevented from carrying out their duties.

Similar disturbances were reported in the 44-Ukhrul (ST) Assembly Constituency, where EVM machines were reportedly destroyed in three polling stations, namely 44/36 – Ukhrul (A), Ukhrul Model High School (N/W), 44/41 – Ukhrul (D-1), Greenland Primary School, and 44/50 – Ukhrul (F), K.K. Leishiphanit Junior High School.

Moreover, the MPCC claimed that in seventeen polling stations within the 44-Ukhrul (ST) Assembly Constituency, incidents of booth capture, poll rigging, and forced voting were witnessed.

These polling stations include Leisan Govt. High School, Sanakeithel Govt. High School, Tushen Govt. High School, and various other locations.

Kohima, April 27: In response to the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s one-day indefinite strike on April 26, the Nagaland State Government has pledged action against illegal taxation and intimidation faced by businessmen from Naga Political Groups (NPGs).

The government directed the Director General of Police (DGP) and Commissioner Nagaland to implement stringent measures to address harassment against the business community. A directive issued on April 25 urged prompt action and emphasized the need to curb anti-social elements.

Home Commissioner Vikeyie Kenya’s letter instructed the DGP and Commissioner Nagaland to promptly inform the government about their actions. They were also tasked with persuading the DCCI to reconsider their strike decision.

The letter underscored the challenges faced by businesses in Dimapur due to illegal taxes imposed by NPGs, despite ceasefire agreements.

The government mandated the enforcement of ceasefire ground rules and called for punitive actions against violators. The Chairman of Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG)/Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) was alerted for intervention.

It praised the police for their crackdown on extortion and stressed sustained efforts in this regard.

He denounced the assault as an act of cowardice against the committed security forces who tirelessly worked to maintain peace and stability in the state. Singh assured them that their sacrifice would be remembered and honored.

“Strongly condemn the assault against Indian security forces, resulting in the tragic loss of two CRPF personnel in Bishnupur district. Such actions demonstrate cowardice against dedicated security personnel who work tirelessly day and night to uphold peace and stability. Their sacrifice will not go in vain,” wrote Biren Singh on his social media handle.

The attack occurred on April 27 when suspected Kuki militants launched an assault in the Naransena area, resulting in the death of two CRPF personnel.

The attack commenced at midnight and lasted until 2:15 am, causing injuries to four personnel from CRPF’s 128 Battalion deployed in the Naransena area.

According to sources, armed groups fired towards a village in Naransena, with one bomb exploding inside the outpost of B/128 Bn CRPF.

This explosion caused injuries to four personnel, including Insp/Gd Jadav Das, SI/GD N Sarkar, HC/GD Arup Saini, and CT/GD Aftab Hussain. Sadly, SI/GD N Sarkar and HC/GD Arup Saini succumbed to their injuries, adding to the tragedy.

Mamata Banerjee Injured in Durgapur Helicopter Incident

Kolkata, April 27: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, leader of the Trinamool Congress, faced an unfortunate incident on Saturday as she slipped and fell inside a helicopter in Durgapur.

The mishap occurred as she ascended the movable stairs to board the helicopter. As she was about to take her seat inside, the slip resulted in a minor injury.

Swift assistance from her security personnel ensured her safety, and she proceeded with her scheduled trip to Asansol without further delay.

This isn’t the first time Mamata Banerjee has encountered such incidents.
