In Samaguri, BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarma will compete against Congress’s Tanzil Hussain.

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), part of the NDA alliance, has nominated Nirmal Kumar Brahma for Sidli. Brahma’s campaign received a strong community response, reflecting broad regional support.

“People from all sections are rallying behind UPPL’s candidate,” Brahma noted, underscoring the NDA’s confidence in a favorable outcome for the by-elections.

This key highway, which serves as a lifeline between West Bengal’s plains and its hill regions, will now allow traffic under constant supervision to ensure the safety and longevity of the route.

To protect the highway’s stability, a 10-metric-ton weight limit has been imposed on heavy commercial vehicles, according to the Executive Engineer of National Highway Division No. IX, West Bengal. The cautious approach reflects concerns about preserving the road’s structural integrity, which has been prone to damage in recent months.

Additionally, authorities have introduced single-lane traffic at six crucial points along a 40-kilometer stretch, including busy sections like Kalijhora and Mamkhola.

His resignation follows the opposition’s ambiguous stance regarding the Behali Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) for the upcoming bye-elections.

Borah expressed his intention to leave the Behali seat for their ally, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPIM (L)], although some Congress leaders have shown interest in contesting the seat themselves.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Assam Sonmilita Morcha (ASOM), Borah mentioned a meeting held on October 18th in Guwahati, which included the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and the Secretary in charge of Assam.

During this meeting, a proposal was made to form a five-member committee to decide on the nomination for the Behali LAC bye-election, where the CPIM (L) had claimed the seat.

In response to the opposition unity’s call for a meeting today, Borah stated that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) must clarify its position on the Behali LAC by 10 AM tomorrow.

He has been attempting to persuade the committee to reconsider its stance, but they remain adamant about receiving immediate confirmation from the AICC.

Under immense pressure to enforce a decision he felt unable to implement, Borah decided to resign from his role as the President of the opposition unity in Assam.

He also emphasized that the significance of opposition unity was highlighted by Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Assam and at the Northeast Congress Coordination Committee meeting in Meghalaya.

An FIR has been lodged, naming nine individuals, including senior Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and officials from private companies in Telangana and Haryana.

PWD Chief Engineer AM Kharmawphlang filed the complaint based on evidence revealed during ongoing arbitration proceedings. The FIR accuses the parties of fabricating records, cheating, and causing substantial losses to public funds.

New Delhi, Oct 21: Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, on Monday, firmly dismissed a petition seeking to replace the term ‘Hindutva’ with ‘Bharatiya Samvidhanatva’ (Indian Constitution).

The petition, filed by Dr. SN Kundra, aimed to replace the word ‘Hindutva’ in public and political discourse with a term that he argued was more inclusive and reflective of India’s constitutional values.

The plea was brought before the Supreme Court, with Dr. Kundra presenting his case in person.

He argued that the term ‘Hindutva,’ often used in political and religious contexts, should be replaced by ‘Bharatiya Samvidhanatva’ to ensure that Indian society remains constitutionally secular and inclusive.

According to him, this change was necessary to uphold the core principles of the Indian Constitution and to prevent any potential misuse of the term ‘Hindutva’ in dividing communities.

As Dr. Kundra began his arguments, the Chief Justice interrupted him, stating, “No sir, we will not entertain this.” The court did not entertain further debate on the matter and swiftly rejected the plea.

The Chief Justice’s response underscored the court’s firm stance on such petitions, signaling that the judiciary is unwilling to entertain cases that attempt to challenge established terms with deep cultural and historical significance, especially when they are perceived to have little legal or constitutional merit.

The swift rejection of the petition also reflected the court’s prioritization of more pressing legal matters over what it deemed unnecessary or frivolous challenges to linguistic or cultural terms.
