The fabric for Ram Lalla’s attire was sourced from Riniki Bhuyan’s ‘Golden Thread of Assam’ project, championed by Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife.

This collaboration not only highlights Assam’s rich textile heritage but also fosters national recognition for Assam Silk.

Adorned in Assam Silk, Ram Lalla will wear this attire throughout the week, commencing with Akshaya Tritiya, showcasing the nation’s pride in traditional textiles.

The attire features Vaishnavite motifs like shankha and peacock, reflecting the idol’s divine elegance.

Born on July 28, 1971, in the scenic village of Rubeyam Ram in Dzongu, Mangan District, Sikkim, Jordan Lepcha’s journey into the world of bamboo crafting commenced under the guidance of his parents, who instilled in him a love for the art form from a young age.

Driven by a profound desire to revive ancient traditions, Lepcha dedicated himself to mastering the intricate techniques of crafting Lepcha hats, known as Thyaktuks.

His dedication led him to participate in a six-month training program for traditional hat weaving organized by the Government of Sikkim’s Industry Department in 1997.

Despite initial challenges in selling his creations, he persevered, juggling additional jobs to support his family while honing his craft.

In 2005, Lepcha extended his commitment by sharing his expertise through training sessions for aspiring artisans in Gangtok, under the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms (Govt. of Sikkim).

Notably, he offered free training sessions at his own residence, empowering individuals to embrace and propagate the ancient craft of Lepcha hat weaving.

Through his tireless efforts, he has not only safeguarded a cherished cultural heritage but also empowered countless individuals to embrace their heritage and sustain themselves through craftsmanship.

Hailing from Lower Lingdong in Mangan district, the 50-year-old artisan has been nurturing the Lepcha cultural heritage for the past 25 years. His speciality lies in weaving traditional Lepcha hats, known as ‘Sumok Thyaktuk’, and crafting bamboo artefacts, a craft passed down through generations.

Lepcha’s bamboo hats, adorned with inscriptions depicting historical events, family values, and Lepcha folktales, serve as symbols of identity for the tribe.

Each hat, meticulously crafted using locally sourced natural materials, takes about one and a half months to complete and is priced between Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.

Despite the labor-intensive nature of his work, Lepcha remains committed to preserving this ancient craft, realizing its significance in safeguarding the community’s identity. Over the years, he has imparted his knowledge to over 150 youths from various parts of Sikkim, ensuring the continuity of the craft for future generations.

In addition to hats, Lepcha creates everyday items like mugs and hair clips, catering to the needs of his community. While he hasn’t extensively marketed his craft, he has met the demand from his community members, underscoring the local significance of his work.

Lepcha emphasizes the importance of securing a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the craft, a process initiated by the Sikkim government. Such recognition would safeguard the art of hat making for the future, ensuring its authenticity and preserving its heritage.

    • Refrain from actions that undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
    • Exercise caution and avoid involvement in political and administrative affairs, including election campaigns and ethnic conflicts.
    • Prohibited from participating in illegal trafficking activities, such as drugs and wildlife.
    • Respect the host country, live harmoniously with local communities, respect their religious practices, and adhere to social norms.
  2. In case of emergencies, including health and social issues, Myanmar nationals needing to cross the border should cooperate with relevant Indian authorities and NGOs to maintain security and stability.
  3. During hardships, Myanmar nationals are encouraged to seek assistance from civil society organizations, philanthropic groups aiding Myanmar refugees, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if necessary.

The overall voter turnout across the three phases stood at 81.56 percent, with a total of 1,99,88,275 general electors exercising their franchise out of the 2,45,06236 eligible general voters.

In the final phase, which encompassed four constituencies, the voting percentage surged to 85.45 percent, with the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency recording the highest turnout at 92.08 percent.

Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Guwahati followed suit with polling percentages of 85.24 percent, 83.55 percent, and 78.39 percent, respectively, despite challenging weather conditions.

The elector gender ratio during the third phase polls was encouraging at 995, indicating a higher number of women in the electoral rolls compared to the population.

Dhubri, with 26,60,827 electors, registered the highest voting percentage among all 14 constituencies, despite its substantial electorate.

In the first phase, Jorhat secured the highest polling percentage at 79.89 percent, followed by Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, and Lakhimpur. Similarly, in the second phase, Nagaon recorded the highest turnout at 84.97 percent, trailed by Darrang-Udalguri, Karimganj, Silchar, and Diphu.

Extensive measures were implemented by the state election department to ensure smooth polling operations, including collaboration with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and BSF in riverine areas.

EVM-carrying vehicles were fitted with GPS for tracking, with over 6,000 vehicles equipped during the third phase alone. An adequate supply of EVMs was ensured, especially in remote regions.

Assam’s voter turnout exceeded the national average, reflecting satisfactory participation levels in the electoral process.

This sentiment has contributed to increased market volatility, with the volatility index soaring for an eleventh consecutive session to 18.20, reaching its highest level since October 2022.

In terms of sectoral performance, twelve out of thirteen major sectors witnessed declines. Notably, construction firm L&T faced significant losses, emerging as the top loser on the Nifty50 with a 6% drop attributed to a subdued revenue growth outlook.

However, there were some positive movements amidst the downturn. State Bank of India managed to close 1% higher, buoyed by a record profit attributed to robust loan growth.

Similarly, Hero MotoCorp exhibited positive momentum following better-than-expected profit outcomes on the previous day, contributing to a 0.8% rise in the Nifty Auto index.

Despite these instances of positivity, some major players faced challenges. Asian Paints experienced a decline of approximately 5% after reporting a fourth-quarter profit miss, impacting overall market sentiment.

In terms of market capitalization segments, both small-cap and mid-cap indices underperformed, witnessing declines of 2.8% and 1.9%, respectively.

These declines across various sectors and market segments reflect the prevailing uncertainty and cautious sentiment among investors amid heightened volatility in the stock market.
