Pilibhit, April 10: Maneka and Varun Gandhi, absent from Pilibhit’s electoral scene for the first time in nearly three decades, were notably missing as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his inaugural public meeting there.

Modi urged support for Jitin Prasada, UP’s public works minister and the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate for the constituency.

Having represented Pilibhit in the Lok Sabha for multiple terms, both Varun and Maneka Gandhi are absent from the fray this time.

Varun Gandhi, BJP’s sitting MP, served two terms, while Maneka won from Pilibhit for six consecutive terms.

The party nominated Jitin Prasada instead of Varun, and Maneka is contesting from Sultanpur, her 2019 winning seat.

Speculations about Varun’s presence circulated throughout the day, but his supporters clarified he was out of town with no scheduled visits.

Before Modi’s arrival, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP state unit president Bhupendra Chaudhary, Pilibhit candidate Jitin Prasada, and Bareilly candidate Chhatrapal Gangwar were present on the dais.

Pilibhit BJP unit leaders noted that neither Maneka nor Varun were listed as star campaigners for the LS election or invited to campaign in the eight seats, including Pilibhit, contesting in the first phase on April 19.

“Varun has not been given a ticket… it’s the party’s decision. He has been a good MP. Whatever he will be in life, he will do good for the country,” Maneka Gandhi commented to the media earlier.

Since 1996, either Maneka or Varun has held the Pilibhit seat. Varun won in 2009 and 2019, securing a significant margin both times. Known for advocating farmers’ and youths’ issues, Varun often veered from the party line.

His emotional letter to constituents recalled childhood memories and emphasized his commitment to serving the common man’s interests.

“I came into politics to raise the voice of the common man, and today I seek your blessings to always continue doing this work. The relationship between me and Pilibhit is one of love and trust, which is far above any political merit. I was, am and will be yours,” wrote Varun, reflecting on his deep bond with the region and its people.

Itanagar, April 10: Amid electoral fervor in Basar, Leparada district of Arunachal Pradesh, a startling discovery unfolded as police intercepted a Bolero vehicle, uncovering a staggering sum of Rs 1 crore in cash belonging to a supporter of a BJP candidate.

This incident occurred amid the intensifying electoral competition between sitting MLA Gokar Basar of the National Peoples Party (NPP) and Nyabi Jini Dirchi, the BJP MLA candidate for the Basar assembly constituency.

D. Toli Basar, shedding light on previous incidents, alleged a pattern of similar occurrences. “Earlier, in Gori Village, Rs 2 lakhs were recovered from a vehicle belonging to BJP MLA candidates, but it mysteriously disappeared from the police station later,” stated D. Toli Basar.

According to MLA Gokar Basar, supporters of the NPP intercepted the Bolero vehicle bearing registration number AR 25 0109 and uncovered the substantial cash amount inside.

Allegations emerged suggesting that the cash was intended to entice voters to support the BJP candidate, Nyabi Jini Dirchi.

“I called the SP at 6 pm, informing them about the vehicle whose owner withdrew ₹1 crore from SBI Basar for using money in elections to buy voters. This money culture should be stopped in the state, which is prevailing everywhere,” remarked MLA Gokar Basar.

Upon investigation, it surfaced that two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed. One FIR, lodged by the owner of the cash, claimed that the money was forcibly extorted by MLA Gokar Basar’s henchmen.

Conversely, another FIR filed by the opposing party alleged the misuse of money for election purposes, a clear violation of the model code of conduct.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed the registration of both FIRs and assured that a thorough inquiry is underway.

The seized cash has been confiscated, and information letters have been dispatched to the District Election Officer of Leparada district.

In a complaint lodged by Mar Bay, addressed to the Officer in charge of Basar Police Station, accusations of extortion and criminal house trespass were levied against Gokar Basar, D. Toli Basar, and others.

Bay contended that the cash, withdrawn for personal and business purposes, was forcefully seized at gunpoint by the accused.

“Rahul baba, I ask you, what contributions has your party made to Assam throughout its history, including the tenure of your grandmother, Indira Gandhi?” Shah’s rhetorical question underscored a call for accountability and tangible results in the state’s development.

Central to Shah’s discourse was the BJP government’s resolute efforts to stem the tide of influx into Assam, a longstanding concern for the region.

“The BJP government has effectively halted the influx into Assam,” Shah proclaimed, highlighting the administration’s proactive measures in addressing this critical issue.

Shah also drew attention to the cultural realm, specifically citing the posthumous conferral of the Bharat Ratna upon Bhupen Hazarika, a revered figure in Assam, during the BJP’s governance.

He criticized the Congress for what he portrayed as neglect towards Assam‘s cultural icons and a failure to adequately honor their contributions.

Moreover, Shah accused the Congress of shirking its responsibilities towards Assam, particularly in terms of fostering equitable development and delivering justice to the northeastern state.

He juxtaposed this alleged negligence with the BJP’s track record of spearheading large-scale development initiatives and effecting transformative changes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Urging the electorate to rally behind and re-elect Narendra Modi for a third term as Prime Minister, Shah positioned the BJP’s vision and achievements as indispensable elements in securing Assam’s prosperity and advancement.

New Delhi, April 09: The Union Home Ministry has taken significant steps to bolster the security of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar by elevating his security cover to the ‘Z’ category, reliable sources report.

This decision follows an intelligence report from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), although specific details regarding the nature of the perceived threat have not been disclosed. The Ministry of Home Affairs acted swiftly on the recommendations, enhancing Kumar’s security protocols to the highest level.

Under the Z category security umbrella, a robust security apparatus has been put in place to ensure Kumar’s safety. A total of 33 security personnel, including CRPF commandos, have been deployed for this purpose. This comprehensive security detail includes 10 armed static guards stationed at Kumar’s residence, six personal security officers (PSOs) providing continuous protection, and 12 armed commandos assigned to accompany him in shifts.

Guwahati Organization Seeks Clarification on Christian Educational Guidelines in Assam

1. Assam dialogue: Guwahati’s KSP seeks CBCI clarification.
2. Complex dynamics: CBCI guidelines prompt KSP inquiry.
3. Socio-cultural challenges: KSP seeks clarity from CBCI.

Guwahati, April 09: In the heart of Assam, a nuanced dialogue unfolds as the Guwahati-based Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) seeks clarification from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) regarding its recent guidelines for educational institutions.

At the core of this discussion are the intricate dynamics of contemporary socio-cultural, religious, and political challenges facing schools under the purview of the CBCI, which oversees a staggering 15,000 educational institutions across the nation.

Embracing these guidelines, KSP extends an olive branch, expressing appreciation for the emphasis on respecting all faiths, refraining from imposing religious traditions on students of diverse backgrounds, providing spaces for inter-religious prayer, and commemorating significant religious festivals.

Yet, beneath the surface lies a quest for clarity, as the CBCI’s guidelines, while comprehensive, leave room for interpretation by not explicitly delineating the precise challenges faced.

President of KSP, Satya Ranjan Borah, articulates a spectrum of concerns, ranging from the limits of exclusive Christian practices within schools to broader issues of cultural identity and educational ethos.

Borah underscores the importance of promoting a holistic understanding of India, nurturing indigenous languages and practices, and fostering an environment where religious pluralism coexists harmoniously with academic pursuits.

This engagement between KSP and CBCI is not isolated but emblematic of broader tensions simmering within the educational landscape, particularly in regions like Assam and Tripura, where missionary-run institutions intersect with the aspirations of various ideological currents.

The KSP’s prior ultimatum to missionary-run institutes underscores a deeper quest for transparency and accountability, as questions swirl around the imposition of religious symbolism and practices within educational spaces.

In neighboring Tripura, echoes of these tensions reverberate as right-wing groups clash with missionary schools over cultural expressions, exemplified by the recent controversy surrounding the insistence on hosting Saraswati Puja within missionary school premises.

Such incidents highlight the complexities of navigating religious pluralism within the educational sphere and underscore the imperative of upholding constitutional values that transcend religious, linguistic, and regional boundaries.

Amidst this backdrop, the CBCI’s supplementary guidelines advocating for diverse faculty representation, fostering religious and cultural sensitivity, and promoting civic engagement through recitations of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution symbolize a concerted effort to navigate these intricate fault lines.

By foregrounding principles of inclusivity, pluralism, and constitutional ethos, the CBCI seeks to chart a path towards educational environments that are not only academically enriching but also socially and culturally transformative.

As the dialogue unfolds between KSP and CBCI, it reflects not only a clash of perspectives but also an opportunity for constructive engagement and collective introspection.

In navigating the contours of religious plurality within educational spaces, both stakeholders are tasked with the profound responsibility of shaping the ethos of future generations and nurturing a society that embraces diversity as its greatest strength.

Assam Movement Veteran, Neglected by Government Schemes, Struggles with Poverty in Later Years

1. Siddheshwari Roy, a respected figure from the Assam Movement, resides in Bongaigaon, Assam.
2. Despite her significant contributions, she remains excluded from government poverty-alleviation schemes.
3. Siddheshwari’s plight underscores the failure to extend support to those who fought for the nation’s cause.

Guwahati, April 09: In the vibrant district of Bongaigaon, Assam, resides Siddheshwari Roy, a revered veteran of the Assam Movement, once a beacon of resilience amid turmoil.

However, today she dwells in the shadows of neglect, untouched by governmental schemes meant to alleviate poverty.

Despite over seven decades of independence and numerous initiatives aimed at uplifting the underprivileged, Siddheshwari Roy remains untouched by their benefits.

In her ancestral home in Old Bongaigaon no. 1, under the Bongaigaon assembly constituency, she lacks access to basic governmental support, including essentials like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and a Ration Card.

Even schemes like the Arunoday Scheme, designed to provide essential amenities, have bypassed her.

The absence of fundamental provisions such as access to a free toilet underscores the depth of her deprivation.

Siddheshwari Roy’s story epitomizes not just her struggle but also reflects a systemic failure to honor individuals who contributed significantly to the nation’s history.

Her plight raises poignant questions about when Siddheshwari Roy, and others like her, will receive the acknowledgement and support they rightly deserve.

It serves as a stark reminder of unfulfilled promises and the pressing need for a more inclusive and compassionate approach towards marginalized segments of society.
