Weather Forecast, April 08: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Northeast India amid a nationwide heat wave.

In the coming days, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Arunachal Pradesh, with a few places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura also likely to experience showers.

The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas across these states, with wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph.

Isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh are particularly susceptible to thunderstorms and lightning, while heavy rain is forecasted in some parts of the state.

In Guwahati and its vicinity, the weather will feature a partly cloudy sky with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers over the next three to four days.

Sarma addressed the media, emphasizing the scarcity of CAA applications in the state. He highlighted the misconception surrounding the CAA protests, stating that those who opposed it must now provide answers.

Despite concerns that the CAA would lead to an influx of applicants, Sarma noted the stark reality of only one application from Assam since the law’s implementation.

He further mentioned that certain political factions had exploited emotions for their agenda, a tactic now exposed by the lack of citizenship applications.

Sarma cited the example of the Sonari constituency, where Bengali-speaking communities reside, yet no citizenship applications under the CAA have been filed.

The activists want the state and central authorities to restore the long-lost peace in Manipur and want the Prime Minister to give his final verdict on the ethnic violence between the Meitei people in the northeastern state of the country.

The conflict going on till now since the past 11 months.

The state has witnessed significant turmoil stemming from issues such as illegal immigration, anti-Christian sentiment, and cross-border narco-terrorism.

This unrest has resulted in mass displacement, with over 60,000 people and houses being affected. More than 5,000 houses have been burnt, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Additionally, around 500 religious structures, including temples, churches, and mosques, have been damaged or destroyed amid the chaos.

Malem Thongam, a prominent transgender activist, has taken the lead in addressing these pressing concerns.

Alongside his supporters, Malem attempted to submit a report and requests to Adhikarimayum Sharda, the BJP President of the state.

However, they were obstructed by the police from approaching her and were warned to leave their vehicles.

Mahout from Assam killed by captive elephant in Mayapur Iskcon

Kolkata, April 08: An elephant named Bishnupriya attacked a Mahout from Assam and was killed and another was attacked. This attack happened in Iskcon in Nadia’s Mayapur, West Bengal.

A female of 16 year old had pushed and pressed Samudra who hailed from Kamrul district in Assam, the Mahout against the wall.

Samudra was 30 years old when was attacked by a female elephant named Lakshmipriya and when Samudra was feeding her, he came close to Bishnupriya and she pushed him with the head and pressed him against the wall.

Another Mahout named Ajay Rabha, who was at the back of Bishnupriya jumped off to save Samudra and in the process fractured his leg.

According to reports, the aggressive behaviour of female elephants is rare and it could be because she might have Some ailments and veterinary officer is presently evaluating Bishnupriya to find the cause of her aggressive behaviour.

Bishnupriya didn’t attack Ajay when he jumped from her back.

Another Mahout from Assam has now been summoned to take care of Bishnupriya and late Sunday evening was able to chain the elephant.

Forest department officials said the elephant’s violent behaviour could be a result of hormonal changes. Forest department officials visited them.

Sources said Bishnupriya was calm and quiet and was given sedatives mixed with bananas by the Iskcon management.

The Iskcon management requested the forest department to use Tranquilisers.

Out of the total requests, 44,626 have been approved, marking a significant 60 percent approval rate, while approximately 15 percent (11,200) were rejected, and 10,819 were invalidated or duplicated. The remaining requests are currently under processing, as per data until April 7, 2024.

Tamil Nadu leads the tally with 23,239 requests, followed by West Bengal with 11,976 and Madhya Pradesh with 10,636. Conversely, Chandigarh (17), Lakshadweep (18), and Manipur (20) reported the lowest numbers of requests.

The Suvidha portal, an initiative by the Election Commission of India (ECI), serves as a robust technology solution to ensure fair and transparent elections.
