NEC Withdraws Vision Document After Referring to Manipur as ‘Chin State of Manipur’ Following Complaints

1. The North Eastern Council (NEC) retracted its Draft Vision 2047 after mistakenly labeling Manipur as the “Chin State.”
2. Chapter 3 inaccurately mentioned “Kukis (Chin)” as from a non-existent Chin State.
3. The draft is now under review to correct these errors before further release.

Imphal, Aug 18: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has retracted its Draft Vision 2047 document after mistakenly referring to Manipur as the “Chin State of Manipur.”

The error appeared in Chapter 3, which incorrectly described the “Kukis (Chin)” as originating from this non-existent Chin State in its discussion on the migration of ethnic tribes in the Northeast.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh identified the error and alerted Union Minister JM Scindia.

He also directed Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi to ensure the correction. As a result, the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region withdrew the draft for revisions.

Planning Advisor Som Kamei confirmed the withdrawal of the document, which was initially circulated on August 9 and 17, 2024. The draft is now being reviewed to fix the inaccuracies before any further release.

Itanagar, Aug 17: Healthcare services in Arunachal Pradesh were disrupted on Saturday as doctors joined a nationwide protest demanding justice for the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

At Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Naharlagun, doctors protested in front of the Emergency and Trauma Department, holding placards and chanting slogans. They called for justice for the victim and her family.

An anonymous doctor reported that all routine services at the hospital were suspended. Similarly, the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Itanagar halted outpatient services and elective surgeries for 24 hours, starting from 6 AM today, though essential services continued as usual.

Doctors at Aalo General Hospital in West Siang and Bakin Pertin General Hospital in Pasighat also participated in the protest. The doctors in Aalo demanded enhanced security for healthcare professionals and urged the government to provide round-the-clock protection.

On Friday, the Indian Medical Association’s Arunachal Pradesh branch called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, a swift trial, and the harshest possible punishment.

They also advocated for the creation of a central law to safeguard doctors and other healthcare personnel.

As part of the PM Surya Ghar initiative, Assam has installed 1.8 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar capacity, promoting widespread solar adoption.

Key policy changes have been introduced to facilitate this transition:

  • Net-Metering for Residential Consumers: Solar energy exported to the grid by residential consumers with systems up to 10 kilowatts (kW) will be adjusted against their grid usage.
  • Simplified Approvals: Technical feasibility approval is waived for installations up to 10 kW.
  • Automatic Load Enhancement: Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) will automatically upgrade the sanctioned load to 10 kW upon commissioning rooftop solar systems.

  • Quick Commissioning: Rooftop solar plants will be activated within three days of installation, with free smart meters provided to beneficiaries.

  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Distribution Transformer (DTR) augmentation and new installations are underway to support the initiative.

Kanpur, Aug 17: In a significant rail accident early Saturday morning, 20 coaches of the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations in Uttar Pradesh.

As per initial reports, the derailment occurred after the train’s engine struck an object on the tracks.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the engine “hit an object placed on the track and derailed.” According to Kanpur ADM Rakesh Verma, 22 bogies were impacted, but no injuries have been reported so far.

The derailment took place at around 2:29 AM, roughly 30 minutes after the train departed from Kanpur Central. It is suspected that a boulder hit the front portion of the engine, leading to severe damage.

The loco pilot reported that the cattle guard of the engine was significantly bent.

In response, Indian Railways dispatched buses to help stranded passengers reach Kanpur, and alternative travel arrangements have been made to continue their journey to Ahmedabad. As a result of the derailment, seven trains have been cancelled, and three others have been diverted.

Authorities, including the Intelligence Bureau and Uttar Pradesh Police, are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the derailment. Emergency helpline numbers have been issued for affected passengers at various stations.
