Bhubaneswar, May 12: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik issued a robust response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent criticism during election rallies in the state.

In a video statement, Patnaik highlighted discrepancies in the Prime Minister’s attention towards Odia language and culture compared to Sanskrit, emphasizing the neglect of Odia despite its classical status. He also mentioned rejected proposals for recognizing classical Odissi music.

This retort follows PM Modi’s remark in Berhampur, questioning why Odisha, rich in resources, lags in development, attributing it to past administrations like the Congress and BJD.

Patnaik countered, pointing out the extraction of coal from Odisha without commensurate benefits for the state. He criticized the Centre’s failure to raise coal royalties over the past decade.

Itanagar, May 11: Itanagar is on the brink of easing its parking problems with the imminent introduction of three new parking lots, as trials for these facilities commenced today, aiming to alleviate the city’s traffic congestion and parking challenges.

These parking lots are expected to be situated in Ganga, ESS Sector, and the civil secretariat in Itanagar.

The projects, funded by the urban department of Arunachal Pradesh, include a Multi-Storey Car parking lot with a capacity of 100 vehicles and another lot with a capacity of over 100 vehicles in the ESS Sector near the Civil Secretariat, amounting to a total cost of 14.71 crores.

The trial phase began today with the testing of three lifts capable of lifting vehicles up to the fourth floor of the building.

As the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) continues to expand, parking shortages are becoming increasingly problematic. Insufficient parking spaces within the ICR have led to vehicles being parked on roads, exacerbating traffic congestion and safety concerns for vehicle owners.

Efforts by the ICR administration and the Itanagar Municipal Corporation are crucial in developing additional public parking spaces to address current and future needs.

3. Sanctions follow slow over-rate offence during the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals.

Sports, May 11: Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant has been penalized with a one-match suspension and a fine of INR 30 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024.

As a consequence of the suspension, Pant will be absent from the crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) scheduled on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

This absence poses a significant setback for DC, as they are still in contention in the Indian Premier League, and a loss could eliminate them from the tournament.

Following the ruling of the Match Referee, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the decision, which was subsequently referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review.

After a virtual hearing, the Ombudsman affirmed that the Match Referee’s decision stands as final and binding, as per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, as stated in the BCCI press release.

Pant has played a pivotal role in DC’s resurgence this season, leading the team admirably after a shaky start. Supported by players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jake Fraser-McGurk, DC has emerged as one of the most dynamic teams in the league, excelling in both batting and bowling.

Notably, Pant’s strategic leadership was evident in their game against Gujarat Titans (GT), where DC bowled out GT for a mere 89 runs, earning Pant the Player of the Match accolade.

Tripura Grapples with Fuel Shortage as Goods Train Services Remain Suspended: Official

1. Tripura faces a fuel crisis due to suspended goods train services, exacerbating supply challenges.
2. Derailment in Assam’s Jatinga area has halted fuel transport to Tripura since April 26.
3. Food and Civil Supplies department official highlights the severity of the fuel shortage in Tripura.

Agartala, May 11: Tripura is grappling with a fuel crisis as goods train services to the northeastern state remain suspended, according to an official from the Food and Civil Supplies department.

The disruption in goods train services occurred on April 26 following the derailment of a goods train in Assam’s Jatinga area, significantly impacting fuel supplies to Tripura.

While passenger train services continue uninterrupted, the absence of goods trains exacerbates the fuel shortage.

Nirmal Adhikari, Director of the Food and Civil Supplies department, expressed concern over the severity of the fuel crisis, emphasizing that goods trains have not resumed operations since April 26.

The uncertainty surrounding the restoration of railway tracks further complicates the situation.

To mitigate the effects of the fuel shortage, the state government initiated rationing measures, limiting the amount of petrol and diesel provided to vehicles.

Two-wheelers and three-wheelers are allocated Rs 200 worth of petrol daily, while four-wheelers receive Rs 500. Buses, minibuses, and trucks are allotted specific daily fuel quotas based on their capacity.

Efforts are underway to augment fuel supplies by increasing the number of oil tankers transporting petrol from Guwahati and Silchar.

Adhikari revealed that 60% of Tripura’s fuel demand is currently being met through oil tankers. However, prolonged disruption in goods train services may lead to shortages of essential commodities, including rice.

In response to potential fuel shortages, the Food and Civil Supplies department has requested police presence at petrol pumps to ensure orderly distribution. Instances of unrest were reported when some motorists resorted to violence after failing to obtain petrol at a fuel outlet.

Despite assurances from railway authorities, the restoration of goods train services remains uncertain. While a goods train carrying petrol and diesel successfully crossed Jatinga, concerns persist over the damaged railway track’s suitability for transporting oil tankers.

Chief Minister Manik Saha has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to expedite the restoration of goods train services to alleviate Tripura’s fuel crisis.

However, railway officials caution that the timeline for resuming services cannot be accurately determined amid ongoing repair efforts.
